& READY TO SHOW & ENJOY! Launched for 1967 and produced with
refinements through 1969, Chevrolets first-generation F-Body Camaro
carved out a loyal following with strong sales heightened by
affordable pricing and a wide array of appearance, comfort, and
performance options. Racing was a natural arena for the Camaro and
Chevrolet ignored GMs self-enforced racing ban to develop the RPO
Z28 option package aimed at the wildly successful SCCA Trans Am
racing series. The development of the Z28 was led by Chevrolets
Product Promotion Engineer Vince Piggins, who masterminded Hudsons
NASCAR dominance of the early 1950s. Quietly introduced, Chevys new
Trans-Am contender featured a high-winding small-block V-8 engine,
combining the basic dimensions of the 327 cylinder block and
short-stroke 283 crank to yield 302 cubic inches just under the
SCCA-mandated displacement limit for Trans-Am racing. A
free-breathing intake system, hot solid-lifter cam, and dual
exhaust, plus tuned underpinnings and other tweaks maximized
performance from the Z28s factory-underrated 290-horsepower output
and mandatory 4-speed manual transmission. All-out racing versions
were most successfully campaigned by Penske Racing and piloted by
trained engineer/star driver Mark Donohue to back-to-back SCCA
Trans-Am championships in 1968 and 1969 against the ferocious Bud
Moore and Shelby-prepped Mustangs.The subject of a photo-documented
total restoration performed to exacting Concours quality, this
collector-grade 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 has been inspected by
Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish, who issued his Certificate of
Authenticity for the vehicle on July 24, 2020. In his summary, Mr.
MacNeish confirmed the Camaro has the original X33 trim tag on the
firewall, the original engine mounts for the 302 CI
high-performance engine, the original Muncie speedometer cable hole
stamped below the windshield wiper motor, and the original tailpipe
adapter plate on the left side rear frame rail all conclusive
earmarks of a factory-original 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.The
factory-correct V0327DZ suffix numbered replacement block is
matched to the rare, factory-specified Muncie M20 4-speed manual
transmission and G80 Positraction 12-bolt rear axle with factory
3.55 gears. Appearance is true to the factory Trim Tag with its
Code 72 Hugger Orange paint finish and Code 711 Black vinyl
interior with bucket seats, console, tachometer, and power brakes
and steering, plus a tilt steering column. The top-of-the-line
Rally Sport option includes hideaway headlamps, front parking and
rear backup lights, RS-specific grille, special Rally Sport
emblems, and wide lower-body mouldings. Correct fine details of
this outstanding restoration include GM tags and labels, along with
correct GM hoses with high tower-style clamps and spring ring-type
battery cables. According to a recent professional appraisal, the
engine compartment and trunk are correctly finished and detailed to
show quality, the glass is in great condition, and the car sports
correct YH coded steel Rally wheels and Goodyear Wide Tread GT
E70-15 tires. A wealth of restoration photographs accompanies the
sale of this outstanding 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/Z28, along with
three binders including technical information and detailed
breakdowns of the cars relevant factory codes and numbers. A
recently completed service and professional detailing render this
American high-performance legend ready to be shown and enjoyed as
originally intended. A race-bred Trans-Am legend for the road, the
first-generation Z28 is immensely collectible; with its trim
tag-correct colors, powertrain, and outstanding presentation, this
Jerry MacNeish-certified 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/Z28 is certainly
one of the finest available.
