2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
As any self respecting Monegasque will tell you, Monte Carlo is the
part of the principality that is the sparkling diamond on top of
the gold ring. A famous casino, as well as an American car, are
closely associated with this familiar name, and reflect opulence,
quality and wealth. And hold the long standing home to Formula 1
racing which takes place through the streets of the city.
For consignment, a 2004 version of the bowtie classic Monte Carlo
and a Dale Earnhardt Jr Edition. A very well preserved one owner
3,145 original mileage car, with all original steel panels,
showroom new interior and full documentation. A few number 8's
throughout, and some special side graphics denoting it is a
Supercharged SS. All in showroom condition and ready for the high
banked oval!
Exterior
Victory Red, something very familiar to the Earnhardt name, bathes
the panels of this car which are straight and rust free. A big
graphic is added to the sides and actually could be considered a
large, elongated E shape, and it is in black and white stripes that
thin out towards the back of the car. Supercharged SS badging makes
an appearance on the lower branch of the E graphic. Black trimmings
for the windows, a sunroof is on top, and a black band of rocker
covering encircles the car at the lowers. On back a rear spoiler
and more rounded versions of the triangular taillights that adorned
Montes of yore. A sticker version of Dale Jr's autograph is on the
back of the trunk deck. 17-inch polished wheels with a thin star
pattern spoke shape adds bling to all the corners.
Interior
In lieu of climbing through the window to gain entry, (just like
those Nascar guys do!), I swung the wide door that has black
shapely molded panels that form the basis for the actuator power
locks, power windows and mirror adjustment wheel toggle. An inset
speaker and a lower storage area is noted as well within all this
curvaceous design. Inside are 2 nice wide high bucket seats with
red Dale Jr embroidered headrests and covered in near perfect black
leather. In the center is a molded rounded console with a glove
box/armrest and shifter housing. More sculpting with plastic panels
and padded vinyl as it moves up to the original dash, where here we
see the temp controls and digital radio. The instruments are neatly
organized in front of the driver and are circular format. Within
the steering wheel are radio and cruise control buttons for hands
on operation of these functions. In back a very sporty rear bench
also in black leather has a nifty fold down central armrest. Clean
black carpeting floods the floors, and above is a tight
headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the nicely detailed and clean engine bay is a
supercharged 3.8 liter V6. It has EFI and a 4T65E 4-speed automatic
transmission attached. It exhales through dual outlet exhaust, and
for the axle, we weigh in at 2.93.
Undercarriage
To confirm the low mileage claim just have a look at the underside,
where you will be hard pressed to find something awry. Dealership
installed undercoating is covering the flooring and unibody and
it's hard to find a trace of surface rust on the suspension
components. Independent coil springs are on all 4 corners as are
power disc brakes.
Drive-Ability
She fires right up and off to the test track I flew. Nice
acceleration from the supercharger assist, good bias free panic
stopping, and excellent handling. All functions worked perfectly
but I kept my track time short as to preserve the low miles.
An extremely low mileage edition of the supercharged Monte Carlo SS
Dale Jr edition. Some tastefully sized and applied number 8's, side
graphics, and leather interior with plenty of creature comforts.
