Vehicle Description
2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) is an American
automotive engineering company specializing in high performance
automobile modifications, specifically engines and induction
systems. Headquartered in Brighton, Michigan the company was
founded by and named for NHRA driver John Lingenfelter. Over the
decades since its founding, LPE has been creating high performance
versions of many GM vehicles, such as the F-Bodies, B Bodies,
Corvette, CTS-V, GTO, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Escalade, Denali,
SSR, Hummer H2, and Sierra. Furthermore, it has also created
performance enhancement packages for the Dodge Viper and Plymouth
Prowler. The owner of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering is Ken
Lingenfelter. Ken is an avid car enthusiast and owns a large
collection of vehicles privately, known as "The Lingenfelter
Collection". The collection is put on display and can be visited by
the public akin to a museum exhibition, it includes many types of
vehicles from all eras of automotive history focusing on
performance cars. It includes Corvettes, American muscle, sports,
performance, race and exotic cars. The facility that houses the
collection is located in Brighton, Michigan.
A 2015 version of the Camaro graces our halls of Classic Auto Mall.
This one announces on its badging that it bears the iconic Z/28
designation which means that in stock form is was capable of
putting out 505hp, however, our consignor wasn't satisfied with a
"mere" 505hp and sent the car to Lingenfelter Performance only 200
miles ago for some serious upgrades in the form of their 660hp
package. One of 1801 examples produced for the 2 year model run,
this 25,218 mile Z is laying down an asphalt shredding 562hp (not
660hp) at the rear tires and is fully poised to make Mustangs and
Challengers cower in fear.
Exterior
With a mere 25,218 original miles, this beauty is bathed in Pull Me
Over Red and shines like a crazy diamond. Adding more bling is the
louvered heat extractor hood, body matching fender flares, black
rocker skirts, rear window louvers and the black low profile rear
spoiler. This car looks great from the front with its bad ass
pointy front grille design to the deep inset single headlights,
integrated bumper, tow hook, chin splitter, and don't forget the
chrome highlighted black bowtie leading the way. Steel panels are
all nice and straight and mind their gaps very well. Z/28 badging
on each of the fender's float above Lingenfelter badging, which are
small enough to be overlooked by most competitors. Looking at the
profile the aero design continues with the swept back windshield
and oversized blacked out snowflake 19-inch wheels. A racer ready
to take on any challengers that come its way.
Interior
A swing of the doors and I feel like I'm viewing the 2015 version
of the Millennium Falcon with even the door panels giving me the
aero design feel, all integrated and smooth lines here. Turning our
attention to the passenger compartment, we can slip in dual sporty
racing designed buckets, with smooth black leather bolsters and
charcoal suede inserts all highlighted by white stitching. No
fooling around here as the seats just grab me as I buckle up, get
acclimated and get ready to roll. The futuristic Buck Rogers in the
21st century continues with the dash, in particular the instrument
cluster which plays on the deep set dual gauge cluster of early
days of the Camaro, but takes it a step up by wrapping them with
rectangular bezels and a center digital odometer and info display.
Seen also is a premium AM/FM/CD audio system with Bluetooth
connectivity. In the center a nicely designed console drops down
from the dash, and houses a small storage cubby, sport and touring
toggles, a suede wrapped shifter and glovebox. As it makes its way
past the buckets, it ends abruptly at the 2 plus 2 leather covered
rear seats.
Drivetrain
Lifting open the hood we are met with a 7.0 Liter LS V8 that has
been tended to by the capable and talented hands at Lingenfelter
Performance. The block was treated to a Lingenfelter LS7 GT21 Cam
By Comp Cams, then the heads were given a Lingenfelter porting,
valve job, springs retainers and locks, then finally surfaced for
11.5:1 compression. On the fuel and air end we have a port matched
LS7 intake that is fed air by a ported and polished LS7 throttle
body. The camshaft actuates Lingenfelter LS7 pushrods, Max-Lift BSR
shaft mounted rockers and CTS-VR lifters. Bolted to the back is a
TR6060 6-speed manual transmission which sends power back to a 3.91
geared limited slip rear axle.
Undercarriage
Underneath is all clean and green, well not actually...it is clean
but is finished in a natural beige color with hints of red all
mixed with black and aluminum with no rust and structurally sound
steel. Keeping the wide 305/30ZR19 rubber planted to the road is an
independent coil spring front suspension and in the rear, we see an
independent multilink and coil spring suspension. Brembo power disc
brakes are all around for stopping and the exhale is handled by
American Racing 1 7/8" long tube headers, high flow catalytic
converters and dual exhaust with the OEM mufflers.
Drive-Ability
Like 2 kids taking our new toy out of the wrapper, my partner in
crime and I took this car out for a spin and we were not
disappointed. Like new condition, it started right up, and we were
off. Obscene amounts of power and the factory shifter is nice, and
we went through the gears effortlessly. Good handling with the
performance suspension. and all is in good working condition.
Just like a favorite toy this consigner took very good care after
playing with it, to put it back in its garage, all buttoned up
until the next time to play. Attention grabbing Pull Me Over paint
on the outside, and nice supple leather and suede on the inside,
all with futuristic design, and plenty of conveniences. Add in the
performance upgraded from LPE and we have a very serious contender.
Take me to hyperdrive!
