cars, the Blue Oval often appears under-represented as it is hard
to get past the Mustang. However, Ford had more in their stables
then just the famed pony cars. To compete with the best of what
Mopar and GM had to offer, Ford had its own fire-breathing mid-size
option in the Torino GT. The 1968-1971 Torino GT was developed from
the Fairlane; the name change happened because Ford planners wanted
a more aggressive option for drivers who'd outgrown the smaller
pony car in the showroom. The two-door Torino GT would initially
slide in to replace the top two trim levels of the Fairlane. Thanks
to a price drop the re-positioned, redesigned car became a strong
seller, with the GT coupe joined by a fastback (or 'SportsRoof')
and a convertible. The Torino GT was a very affordable Ford that
could easily show its taillights to a long list of contemporaneous
rivals. The most venerable of these Ford intermediates was the
Torino Cobra, which featured the 429 R-Code, heavy-duty suspension
and drag package, shaker hood, power disc brakes up font, locking
differentials. Featured here is an excellent example of these
street terrors from the midst of the muscle car era. This Cobra is
a phenomenal, Factory Correct Restoration with 15,670 miles showing
on the odometer, but can't prove if that's original or not. The
factory Candy Apple Red Paint is well applied over professional and
well executed body work. The paint has been polished to a high
luster and the black vinyl top adds to the stunning looks of this
Ford that looks fast just sitting still. Underneath the floors are
original with a light coat of undercoating and no visual
indications of any collision or rust repairs. The suspension is
well detailed and presents as factory correct. Everything has been
completely rebuilt and this car drives like it did when it came off
the showroom floor. The brakes are power assisted with front disc
up front with drums out back. The interior has been completely
restored with new door cards, carpet and seat upholstery. This car
was ordered stripped down, with no gauges, radio delete, and no
power robbing accessories. Under the hood sits the infamous R-Code
428cid/335hp 4bbl Ram Air Cobra Jet. The engine compartment is show
ready and detailed. The drivetrain has been completely restored and
transfers power through the Hurst shifted 4-speed close-ratio
manual transmission into the 3.91:1 Traction-Lok rear differential.
This beautiful restoration is well documented and complete with a
Marti Report documenting Cobras history and rarity as well. This
will be a great car to cruise and take to shows and admire. Call if
interested or e-mail with questions. Thank you for looking.
