Vehicle Description
This 1979 Ford F-150 is a cool/fun 4x4 with the right investment in
the right places. That means a retro-cool paint theme, fresher
suspension components, and a hardy 390 V8 under the hood.
This one makes an instant impression as a true classic. It's
absolutely because of the sunset-style graphic dominating both
sides. This mimics the Free Wheelin' package offered by Ford back
in the day, but what you see now is actually a recent addition
that's also part of a more recent respray. It's part of a solid
investment in this truck within about the last year. So as you look
through the full package, you're going to spot plenty of fresh
fundamentals. But the finish and body package never takes itself so
seriously that you'll stop using this as a real pickup. After all,
the lifted 4x4 stance and full liner in the bed remind you this one
is for both function and fun.
The interior looks clean, simple, and vintage. The wide bench seat,
clear gauges, and new carpeting make it a nice place to spend some
time. And there are good underlying features, too, like the new
floors. You may choose to restore to the factory A/C or upgrade the
classic AM/FM/cassette stereo, but the overall feel is just like
the exterior: vintage and fun.
Under the hood is proper big blue oval power. Ford's mighty 390
cubic-inch V8 has a nice look with the bold blue block radiating
within the engine bay. The recent work meant checking the engine's
compression and adding a new water pump, oil pump, and gaskets. So
it fires up readily, idles nicely, and shifts well with the
three-speed automatic transmission. The transfer case and
differentials were also serviced to keep this a hardy 4x4. There
are also new off-road shocks and new Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires.
It makes for a great off-roader, and the power steering, power
brakes, and front discs make this a solid all-around driver.
