For Sale: 1970 Ford Mustang in Macedonia, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Mostly original car with one older repaint. Great color combination. Torquey 351-2V/auto. Nice original interior. Runs and drives great. Well detailed engine bay, clean and solid undercarriage. Marti Report. An unusual Mach 1 that's ready for fun!Ford took the Mustang upscale with the Mach 1, adding a more luxurious interior with wood accents, a bigger standard engine, and, of course, the ever-popular fastback styling with special graphics and rocker moldings. The result was one of the most popular Mustangs of the period, and that's easy to understand. The Mach 1 does everything you want a Mustang to do, and it does it well. Fast, fun to drive, comfortable, and even practical with the fold-down rear seat, it's the kind of car that's at home almost anywhere. And when it's painted Dark Ivy Green Metallic, it's bound to stand out without making a lot of noise. Combined with the black hood treatment, this handsome Mach 1 has a grown-up look that's very appealing. As far as we can tell, this car has never really been apart and it drives like it-tight and smooth the way only original cars can be. It has been repainted at some point in the past, but the color is exactly right-a dark almost olive green that looks sophisticated on the fastback bodywork. There's no evidence of patchwork underneath and the flanks are commendably straight, suggesting this Mustang has lived a good life. The hood identifies the 351 cubic inch V8 living underneath and the distinctive Mach 1 ribbed aluminum rocker moldings leave no question as to what this car is. Add in a hood scoop, locking hood pins, and a chin spoiler and you get a Mustang that just looks right.Inside there's a black comfort knit vinyl interior that we believe is mostly original. It's possible that the carpets have been replaced but we believe the seat covers, door panels, headliner, and dash pad are original 1970 parts. The Mach 1 added woodgrain inserts on the dash as well as the rim-blow steering wheel, adding a bit of warmth that the base models were lacking. Big, round gauges monitor the engine's vitals and all the gauges appear to be operational. In the center stack there's a later AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit as well as the controls for the heater/defroster. The cool clock over on the passenger's side was also part of the Mach 1 package, although it, sadly, does not seem to be working. Glance out the windshield and you'll see the turn signal indicators mounted on the back of the hood scoop, a very cool feature. The back seat is in excellent condition and folds down for impressive storage space, making this Mustang practical as well as fun. There's also a good-sized trunk with a correct mat and full-sized spare tire assembly. The standard engine in the Mach 1 was a 351 cubic inch V8, which was rated at 250 horsepower and 355 pounds of torque-enough to make this fastback a lot of fun to drive. This particular H-code 351 is the Cleveland version, so it's a little bit unusual although horsepower numbers are the same for both Cleveland and Windsor versions. Dressed in Ford Blue and still wearing its original air cleaner assembly, it remains quite stock under the hood and runs great-easy starts, nice idle, and the kind of easy-going torque that makes it fun in the real world. You'll also note power steering is part of the equation, along with power front disc brakes, so anyone should be able to manage this fastback on the road. The FMX 3-speed automatic is well-matched to the torquey 351 and offers smooth shifts and quick downshifts when a little extra go is needed. 3.00 gears out back make it a relaxed highway cruiser and ride quality is quite good. The only notable modification is a set of long-tube headers and a dual exhaust system, surely good for a few horsepower and it definitely sounds like a Mustang. You'll note that it's a little scruffy underneath but it's quite solid, with original floors, good torque boxes, and no issues in the rockers-someone took care of this car and kept it out of the elements. There's a newer gas tank hanging out back and it sits on cool Magnum 500 wheels with staggered 215/70/15 front and 245/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radialsDocumentation includes a deluxe Marti Report and it comes with a shock tower brace and an aftermarket air cleaner assembly. These cars never stick around for long and it's easy to understand why. The Mach 1 offers a near perfect blend of fun, good looks, easy service, and even some practicality. Nicely finished and ready to enjoy, this unusual dark green Mach 1 stands out and is reasonably priced, so don't wait and call today!Harwood Motors always recommends and welcomes personal or professional inspections of any vehicle in our inventory prior to purchase.
