Award-winning pro-built custom with just test and tune miles.
LS6-spec 454 with 4-speed. Beautiful paint and bodywork with
integrated '67 hood scoop. Custom upholstery, ice cold A/C.
Stunning Corvette that drives as great as it looks. The problem with
custom Corvettes is that a lot of guys just don't know when to
stop. Corvettes aren't exactly subtle, which is why we like this
gorgeous 1972 Corvette coupe so much. At a glance, it's instantly
recognizable but then you start to notice all the little tricks
that set it apart. The big one is that hood with a 1967 big block
hood scoop grafted in place-it looks like it was born there. All
the emblems were shaved and then the fiberglass was smoothed and
blocked to give it a wave-free surface for that gorgeous paint job.
The paint is a proprietary mix called Screamin' Demon Blue, and
it's somewhere between blue and silver with enough metallic in it
to make it glow in the sunlight. Photos just don't quite do it
justice. All the chrome and stainless trim is new, so it sparkles
against the blue bodywork, and fit and finish are far superior to
anything GM was doing in 1972. It's still 100% Corvette, but
someone was sweating the details when this one went together. The
black and gray interior was custom stitched from leather and suede
over the original bucket seats, again invisibly blending old and
new. You'll quickly note blue LEDs in place of the original
courtesy lamps, so it has a high-tech look the moment you open the
door, and there's a lovely mahogany steering wheel in place of the
plastic original. Factory gauges monitor the thumping 454 up front
and they all work properly when you're racking the Hurst 4-speed
shifter through the gears. The radio is a custom digital AM/FM unit
and the car includes such niceties as power windows and a modern
A/C system whose controls are neatly stashed out of sight in the
ashtray (along with a USB charging port). The wiring is new from
front to back and the entire interior was insulated for sound and
heat before the upholstery was installed, so this is a surprisingly
comfortable Corvette. Carpets, seat belts, and other soft parts
were replaced during the build and there are reproduction door
panels for the right look. The cargo bay was restored and there's
plenty of room for T-top storage. For an early C3 with side pipes,
this one is remarkably civilized.'Civilized' is a relative term, of
course, because under the hood is a 454 cubic inch V8 built to LS6
specs. That's 450 horsepower and 500 pounds of torque, and when you
crank the key every one of those ponies shows up ready to rock.
There's a 750 CFM Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor on top, an Accel
electronic ignition system, and a decent cam inside that gives it
that thundering idle. It's a little grumpy when it's cold, but
after running for a few seconds idles properly without any stutters
or other big engine fussiness and after that first start each
morning, it'll start instantly the rest of the day. It's actually
pretty impressive. There's a big aluminum radiator with two 4200
CFM electric fans, so overheating is a thing of the past, and both
power steering and power brakes are part of the package. A Super
T10 4-speed manual shuttles power back to the original rear end
with 3.08 gears inside, so it remains a fantastic high-speed
cruiser and even with the side pipes, it settles right down on the
highway. A giant 1.125-inch front sway bar, poly bushings, and Poly
Smart rear camber rods tighten up the handling and all the brake
lines and hoses are stainless steel so they'll last forever. The
underside of the body and all the wheelwells were coated with
spray-on bedliner for durability (this is a show car but it was
built to drive) and the ride height is exactly right. 18-inch
aluminum wheels have a suitably retro look and carry staggered
245/45/18 front and 275/40/18 rear performance radials. We're really
impressed with this car. It stands out without being too aggressive
and the attention to detail is superior. It's built to drive, yet
the only time it was shown it won first prize. If you like the
combination of savage power, surprising comfort, and stunning good
looks, this Corvette deserves a closer look. Call today!Harwood
