AMC has always offered distinctive cars with lower production
figures than The Big Three. That's what makes this 1978 AMC Concord
AMX so intriguing. It's a complete and distinct example of a bold
and rare coupe.
This is a great year for fans of unique American classics. 1978 was
the first year for the Concord name, and the AMX package moved to
the small Sprint for 1979. So this was a single-year car, and there
are believed to be only about 2,500 examples. So over 40 years
later, you can imagine how many fewer have survived to be this
complete. And the details are what make this generation AMX so
special. The color-matched bumpers, rear window slats, and
vector-style wheels give this a sporty style. And the targa-like
bar around the b-pillar is a very cool touch. The color theme is
nice with the factory-correct Quicksilver Metallic providing a base
to showcase the full graphics package that could make the Trans
Am's hood bird jealous. And the full-length pinstripe highlights
all the lines of this curvy hatchback. It makes for a good
driver-quality presentation, which is often ideal for a
driver-ready classic like this.
The blue interior looks good against the silver exterior, and it
has all the right elements you'd expect from a classic performance
machine. Bucket seats and a center console make it instantly
inviting. You love the grip of the correct AMC three-spoke sports
steering wheel, and you get a commanding view of the full gauge
package with large speedo and tach. There are even auxiliary
readouts on the floor next to the shifter. This is attractive for
its originality, right down to the working dome light. But you'll
also appreciate the right comfortable touches. There's an upgraded
AM/FM digital tuner with cassette and the factory air condition
just needs servicing to blow cold again.
Under the hood is a very correct-looking 258 cubic-inch inline-six.
There are plenty of people who already know some hardy V8s fit in
here to create a very cool lightweight muscle car. But before
making new plans, you may want to appreciate what's right here. The
bold blue on the motor should remind you that this is a similar
torque-filled powerhouse to what Jeeps relied on for go-anywhere
ability. So you can get up from the stoplights with pep, and this
has an overall responsive feeling that comes from the light and
compact package. Add in the three-speed automatic transmission,
power steering, and front disc brakes, and you'll love cruising
this AMC everywhere.
You're looking at a classic that will be unique in any crowd. So
when a cool package like this is also quite affordable, you know
you need to hurry up if you want to take it home. Call today!!!
