Vehicle Description
This 1979 Datsun 280ZX is a two-seat fuel-injected five-speed
classic coupe that makes for the best kind of classic around. It
represents the right mix of originality, affordability, and
all-around driver fun that you want in a classic you can really
enjoy.
The factory-correct Sky Blue paint also shows all the right signs
of being the factory-original application. It wears its age with
distinction, kind of like a good barn find or that well-kept car
you saw in the neighborhood for decades. So while you could
certainly update this car's style, it already looks like it has a
story to tell. And no matter how you choose to motor in this Z-car,
it will always have the appeal of the truly classic sports car
lines that gives you the long hood, flared fenders, and fastback
roofline. It was Datsun/Nissan's attention to the timeless style
back then that makes this car still so attractive over 40 years
later.
The ZX was new to the market in 1979, and it ushered in a new era
of a mix of luxury and performance. You see it quite well inside
there you have amenities like power windows, cruise control, and an
AM/FM stereo. It's quite vintage, complete, and survivor-like
inside. In fact, the only upgrade you're likely to notice is a
freshly reupholstered driver's seat. It's a nice reminder about who
is the priority. The same does for the low-spoke sports steering
wheel that gives you an excellent view of the large speedo and
handy tach. And like the Datsun Zs that came before it, the
auxiliary readouts are prominently placed in the top center of the
dash.
The 2.8-liter six-cylinder motor is what really makes this car a
legend. It has a torque-filled nature and an inherent smoothness
from the inline configuration. And this is a generation with
factory fuel injection to deliver the best in power and
consistency. This one upholds that desired level of Japanese
quality as it fires up and runs with confidence. Plus, the
five-speed manual transmission gives you control over it all. And
speaking of control these are excellent drivers thanks to a fully
independent suspension, power steering, and four-wheel power disc
brakes.
We really don't find these 40+ year-old Japanese classics with this
level of originality anymore. So you might just want it for its
survivor-like style. Or maybe you see the value price and think
about the room it leaves in your budget for upgrades for your
choice of paint, restoring the air conditioning, upgrading the
exhaust, and other personalization. When you have a desirable
fuel-injected Z-car as a base the sky's the limit. Call
