dot com) If you grew up in the 70's then you no doubt remember the
now famous commercials featuring the handsome and articulate
Spanish actor Ricardo Montalbán introducing the new Chrysler
Cordoba and the thickly-cushioned luxury seats available in rich
Corinthian leather. The Chrysler Cordoba was introduced by Chrysler
for the 1975 model year as an upscale personal luxury car,
competing with the Oldsmobile Cutlass, Buick Regal, and Mercury
Cougar. Interiors were more luxurious than the Dodge Charger SE and
much more than the top-line standard intermediates (Plymouth Fury,
Dodge Coronet) Optionally available were bucket seats upholstered
in the rich Corinthian leather with a center armrest and cushion, a
center console with floor shifter and storage compartment. The
dashboard and door panels featured simulated wood trim and metal
stampings. But what is Corinthian Leather? Is this luxury leather
so rich that it is of biblical proportions? Afterall, the Roman
Empire city of Corinth, the capitol of Achaia, was famous for its
intellectual and material prosperity, so perhaps. However, when
Montalbán was asked by David Letterman during an interview on the
show Late Night with David Letterman what the term depicted, the
actor cheerfully admitted that the term meant nothing, he simply
had ad-libbed the line while filming the commercial! The luxurious
1979 Chrysler Cordoba featured here lives up to intended upscale
design and features the new for 1979 300 option, featuring an
all-white exterior with red and blue trim, Chrysler 300-style
grille and a four-barrel 360 V-8 engine. The Chrysler 300 option
was advertised and marketed as its own model that year. This car
has been under the same ownership for 23 years and comes with the
original build sheet and a maintenance file full of receipts. The
finish on this car appears to be original and while there are a few
chips and blemishes throughout the car indicative of a car that has
been driven and enjoyed, it is well maintained and presents well.
There are no indications of any collision or rust repair on the
body. Bumper chrome and stainless trim has been well maintained and
still shines with a rich luster. The underbody of the car is
unrestored and has been undercoated and there is no apparent rust
in the floorboards or chassis. It appears well maintained with
newer shocks and mufflers. Under the hood the correct 360cid V8
backed by a 727 Torqueflite Automatic transmission that transfers
the power back to the 3.42:1 Sure Grip rear-end. The engine bay is
original and unrestored with many of its assembly and factory
markings still present. Options include, power steering, power
brakes, air conditioning, and cruise control. The interior of the
car is original, unrestored but well maintained and preserved. The
cabin is well optioned with bucket seats and floor mounted shifter
and tilt steering column and of course the rich Corinthian leather.
The dash features full factory gauges including oil pressure,
volts, temperature and tachometer and the factory AM/FM Stereo.
Supporting the cars originality is the glovebox still filled with
the factory owner's manuals. Included in the sale are also the
factory service manuals. This is a great car to drive and of course
show. This car has been recognized at several regional Mopar Meets
and has been a consistent class award winner. Call If Interested or
