dot com) The Plymouth Duster was positioned in 1970 to compete in
the market on multiple levels. The Duster was built on the Valiant
platform and shared the same front-end sheet metal but featured a
sporty roof design different from the Valiant from the cowl back.
The Plymouth Duster could uniquely compete with multiple
competitors across the market such as Ford's slightly smaller
semi-fastback Maverick compact car and the AMC Hornet which were
both introduced in 1970 as well. But also, the slightly larger
semi-fastback Chevrolet Nova and even marketed as an alternative to
subcompacts such as the Volkswagen Beetle and the new class of
domestic subcompact cars like the Chevrolet Vega. Numerous trim and
option package variants of the Duster were offered and designed to
target customers seeking economy, cargo capacity, and/or
performance. The 1973 Plymouth Duster featured here is an excellent
example of the versatility these cars offered in a changing muscle
car market and even now checking all the boxes of an entry level
car buyer who wants performance, bold looks but is on a budget.
This car has been cosmetically restored with some slight resto-mods
making it a great car to drive and show. The older repaint presents
well with a nice luster and shine. Body work, if any was light as
there are no obvious indications of any collision or rust repair.
Bumpers have been painted body color with blacked out trim, rear
spoiler and the lift off fiberglass scooped hood giving this Duster
a serious performance look. The underbody of this car is
unrestored, and the rear floors have been repaired, and the
remaining structure is rust free and solid. The black interior has
new carpet, headliner and custom door cards and package shelf. The
seat upholstery appears original on the factory high back front and
rear bench seats. Further upgrades include a Grant steering wheel,
B&M Shifter and Nakamichi AM/FM stereo with AUX output. The
dash features the factory gauges with coolant temperature and
voltmeter. The odometer shows 87,000 miles on the 120 MPH
speedometer. The suspension is unrestored with non-power drum
brakes on all four corners and power steering. The under hood has
been lightly detailed to showcase the 318 V8. The engine appears
well maintained with fresh tune-up with new spark plugs, spark plug
wires, cap & rotor and fuel filter as well as all fresh cooling
hoses and fan belts. The exhaust flows through a set of Hooker
headers into dual exhaust with X-pipe into Flowmaster mufflers
giving this Mopar a strong rumble through the tailpipes. Power is
transferred to the 3-speed automatic transmission and planted to
the pavement through the 14 factory steel wheels wrapped in BF
Goodrich Radial T/A raised white letter tires. This stunning Duster
as it was designed originally, still represents a great value and
potential in the current market and it's ready to cruise. Please
