This 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has been under the care of the
same family all its life thus far, and that's how you get a
sharp-looking coupe that's also exceptionally original. And you
have desirable features like V8 power, an overdrive transmission,
T-tops, and cold-blowing air conditioning. So if you're looking for
a car that's a driver, a survivor, and an all-around distinct
classic, this one knows how to turn heads without breaking the
bank.
This car has been a family affair. The second owner was the brother
of the first, and then he passed it to his son. It appears that
they were all gentlemen by the way this one appears today, and even
the low odometer is believed to reflect the full mileage (averaging
under 1,300 miles annually.). These earlier 3rd gen coupes had a
leaner look and terrific sharp lines. The factory-correct Blaze Red
looks largely original, and we love the design of the decals that
let it fade into the silver body effects kit. If you need
perfection, you may want to use the value price to invest in some
professional paint detailing. But we like how this one remains
glossy while still showing the history of four decades in one
family. Where you can also see the difference in a one-family car
is in the details. The added care shows in the way the doors close
with confidence, the weather-stripping is pliable, the panels fit
well, and the T-tops rest snugly.
The two-tone interior has a quality feel. The seats, door panels,
carpet, and headliner have a stock new-like appearance. So stepping
in feels like a time capsule. Front high-back buckets and a center
console make for a good driver's car. The three-spoke sports
steering wheel is on a tilt column to give you a clear view of the
sporty round gauge package. It's also loaded with power windows,
power locks, and a premium Delco AM/FM/cassette stereo. And since
the factory air conditioning is blowing nice and cold, this is the
ideal car to take out the T-tops and show off the stylish cloth
seats, even in the summer.
Under the hood is a 305 cubic-inch V8. It's a strong torque-filled
heart that has the power and consistency of fuel injection. The V8
is mated to a 700R4 four-speed automatic to make for an ideal combo
of stout construction and smooth shifting all the way into
overdrive. More of this good all-around driver feeling is in the
power steering, cruise control, sway bars front & rear, and
four-wheel power disc brakes.
A car with this kind of history also comes with good paperwork,
like the original bill of sale, a window sticker copy, a
reproduction buildsheet, the owner's manual packet, and the
warranty card. This is the Trans Am that's preserved, loaded,
powerful, distinct, and attractive. So when you can get it all for
a value price, you know you need to hurry on this deal. Call
