#'s Matching L79, 4-speed manual transmission, numbers matching
drivetrain, factory interior and exterior colors, runs and drives
great!
The team at LaFontaine Classic Cars presents this beautiful 1965
Corvette convertible that has undergone a frame on restoration some
time ago that has held up very well - a sure sign that this
Corvette was well taken care of by the previous owners. During the
refurbishing process, the exterior received a fresh coat of the
factory color Milano Maroon (trim tag code M-M) to bring it back to
its former glory. The original bumpers, emblems, and beautiful
chrome/stainless brightwork was all reused while a new white
convertible top by Al Knoch was installed providing the perfect
contrast.
This C2 isn't powered by the more common base 327ci engine, lifting
the hood reveals the numbers matching 327/350hp (RPO code L79)
power plant in its stock form including correct intake manifold,
correct part number Holley 4-barrel carburetor, air cleaner, and
much more. The chrome ignition cover is still intact along with the
factory installed spark plug wire shields. Up front is a new OEM
style radiator to keep things cool.
Behind the engine is a factory, VIN number stamped, Muncie M20
4-speed manual transmission that shifts smooth and easy. The
internal gears and synchros feel to be in great condition as
upshifting and down shifting are a breeze. Following the driveshaft
rearward, you will find the stock rear axle stamped with ""AO 5 18
65"". The ""AO"" stands for 3.70 gears with Posi-traction
differential, the remaining numbers are the date the axle was
assembled, May 18, 1965.
The interior is finished in the factory color trim tag code ""STD""
which refers to black. All components inside are in like-new
condition from the seat covers and door panels, to the dash board
and gauge panel. Centered in the dash is an AM/FM radio, factory
installed clock, along with the functional heat and air flow
controls. The driver's side features a gorgeous factory 3-spoke
wood steering wheel that frames the large speedometer and
tachometer mounted in the dash monitoring vehicle and engine
speeds. Between the bucket seats is the center console housing the
stock chrome shifter and original ashtray with factory seat belts
on either side.
The underside of this convertible reveals the factory fiberglass
floors in great condition, newer brake and fuel lines, full dual
exhaust system in great condition exiting under the rear bumper.
New suspension components including front upper and lower control
arms, rear transverse leaf spring with end links as well as lower
trailing link bars and bushings. 1965 was the second year of the
4-wheel disc brakes as a standard option on Corvette, and this
brake system works great with its power assist.
Rolling stock consists of factory 15"" steel wheels with Corvette
spinner style hub caps, each wrapped with 215/75/15 white-wall
radial tires adding to the smooth and predictable ride and
handling.
