1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio Series 3 Debut model year for
Quadrifoglio 2.0L DOHC, eight-valve four-cylinder engine with Bosch
L-Jetronic fuel injection and variable valve timing (VVT)
Five-speed manual transmission Silver exterior with black trim and
black, folding soft-top and optional body-colored, removable
hardtop with tinted glass and rear defroster Power brakes Rear
spoiler With its Pininfarina-style body and 2L engine, this Alfa
Romeo Spider is the quintessential Italian roadster. Nineteen
eighty-six was the first model year for the Quadrifoglio trim. Made
in Grugliascao, Turin and San Giorgio Canavese (Pininfarina),
Italy, this example is dressed in silver. The paint and trim are in
very good order with minor imperfections. The Quadrifoglio Verde
(Green Fourleaf Clover) or QV model was introduced in 1986, with
many aesthetic tweaks, including sideskirts, mirrors, new front and
rear spoilers, hard rubber trunk mounted spoilers with integral
third stoplight, unique 15-inch alloys and optional removable
hardtop. The car?s paint and trim are in overall very good order,
the bodywork is straight, the engine bay is very tidy and the cargo
area is in satisfactory order. The chrome bumpers look great and
fit tightly to the body. This example has a black, folding soft-top
and an optional, body-colored, removable hardtop with tinted rear
window and rear defroster. The soft-top is in the trunk, along with
steering wheels and a box of parts. This two-seater rolls on
Goodyear Eagle RS-A radials, size 195/60R15 at all four corners.
Each tire is mounted to a 12-hole alloy wheel finished in chrome.
The wheels are in excellent order with the tires in very good
shape. Under the hood is a 2.0L DOHC, eight-valve four-cylinder
engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and variable valve
timing (VVT). The engine is married to a five-speed manual
transmission. Driver convenience features include power brakes.
Different interior trim included blood red carpets and gray leather
seats with red stitching. The gray leather seats need some TLC but
are in overall satisfactory shape while the carpeting is in very
good order. There is a three-spoke, wooden Nardi steering wheel, a
black dashboard and matching inner door panels, all three of which
are in good, original order. The speedometer and odometer is inop.
The center console and its shifter, along with an aftermarket AM/FM
stereo, round out the interior. The Quadrifoglio was otherwise
mechanically identical to the standard Spider Veloce model, with a
2.0 L DOHC, two valves per cylinder four-cylinder engine and Bosch
L-Jetronic fuel injection introduced for the 1982 model year except
that the VVT mechanism was now L-Jet activated and a five-speed
manual transmission. Competition to this Alfa Romeo Spider in 1986
included Chevrolet?s Z24 Convertible, Chrysler?s Le Baron
Convertible, Dodge?s 600 Convertible, Ford?s Mustang GT
Convertible, Mercury?s Capri RS Convertible, Pontiac?s Sunbird GT
Convertible and Toyota?s Celica Convertible. If the idea of an
