dot com) The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet
Chevelle, named after the coastal community of Malibu, California.
The Concours luxury option for Malibu sedans and coupes included
upgraded cloth or vinyl bench seats, carpeted lower door panels,
woodgrain trim on dash and door panels, over the base model. These
finer luxury details have made this model of the Chevelle a perfect
pallet for Day 2 upgrades for hot rodders wanting to build a
performance car but could not afford higher level optioned SS
Chevelle and not to mention dodge the insurance rates that came
with the more heavy-handed big block Super Sport cars. It also made
these cars a perfect disguise for a street sleeper. Lacking the SS
lettering these cars were a perfect way to build a wolf in sheep's
clothing. These transformations continue today with muscle car
enthusiasts wanting the performance of a SS, but with rising prices
on these cars they are more affordable way to have SS performance
you can drive rather than stash away too afraid to drive or modify
due to the investment in a high dollar collectible. The is 1972
Chevrolet Malibu featured here is a perfect example of this type of
car that has been subtly modified and upgraded from its original
intent by General Motors. It's a striking car on its own merits
with the red on black color combination. The red finish on this car
pops with a rich luster and the body work is smooth and presents
very well. The underbody and the floor of this car is solid with no
rust through supporting this cosmetic restoration was based on a
clean and overall rust-free base. The SS cowl induction hood is a
nice upgrade along with the Corvette Rally wheels wrapped in BF
Goodrich T/A Radials and really presents a menacing stance that
looks fast just sitting still. Inside the black interior is clean
featuring fresh carpet and the upholstery is free of any rips,
tears or seam pulls. Summit Racing gauges help monitor the engine
vitals which is really the only clue inside the vehicles cabin that
this Malibu has a little more going on under the hood. The dash pad
is free of any cracks and the lower-level Malibu sweeping 120 mph
speedometer gauge (higher optioned Chevelles have the round gauge
packages.) reads 69,000 miles. With column shifted automatic and
bench seat, this car appears pretty sedate, perfect for just
cruising with your significant other snuggled up to you in the
middle position of the seat. That is until you open the hood. Under
the hood sits a classically modified 350 small block V8. An
Edelbrock EPS dual plane aluminum intake is topped with an
Edelbrock Performer intake. This engine compartment presents well
and is detailed with chrome valve covers and open element air
cleaner. The exhaust flows through headers into a 2.5 pipes and
Magnaflow chamber exhaust and tips that dump just before the
differential giving this Chevy a nice rumble at idle. Further
upgrades include aluminum radiator and electric cooling fans. The
suspension is unrestored but is well maintained, featuring power
steering and four-wheel drum brakes. This a great car to enjoy
cruising, driving to the car shows and in general participating in
automotive enthusiast events. Please call if you are interested in
the vehicle or send us an email if you have specific questions.
