Vehicle Description
This 1962 Ford Galaxie has the look of a big and premium coupe. But
what really makes this one desirable is you get to lift the hood
and show off the unique 406 big block V8 power with a triple-deuce
on top. And to make sure you're going to love driving this fast
Ford they gave you everything from air conditioning to
four-on-the-floor.
The Galaxie was sporty, formal, and premium all rolled into one.
The sweeping side trim and afterburner tail lights were positively
jet-inspired. And the factory-correct Rangoon Red was resprayed
later in life by an even hand to give this a bright and speedy
look. There are also elegant design touches, like how the curve of
the outer headlights became part of the fender line and the formal
roof has plenty of bright trim. So this one is quite attractive
just for its classic style, and then you notice the large dual
exhaust tips and Cragar SS wheels with an extra meaty rear set. It
lets you know there's much more going on with this Ford.
The interior is a mix of vintage and performance all wrapped in a
stylish package. There's a quality appearance in the fundamentals,
including the door panels, carpeting, and dash pad that make this
inviting. And we especially love the bright white seats with red
seatbelts. So a full-size Galaxie has the room to really share this
with family and friends, and this one also has the presentation
that will impress them. And they'll all love going for a ride in a
classic with cold-blowing air conditioning. But even when it's just
you, this one is a great place to spend some time. There are
vintage details like the steering wheel and readouts in the
machine-turned panels. But the auxiliary gauges, large tach, and
Hurst Competition Plus floor shifter all signal the upgraded power
package under the hood.
Just like the rest of the car, the engine bay impresses with its
bright and tidy style. But for those who love blue oval
performance, it's what's at the center that impresses the most. The
VIN tells us this was born a 406 cubic-inch V8 car. It's a special
big block displacement that was developed to help the Galaxie own
the streets, and it was only available for two years. So it's great
to have a year-correct block under the hood. And while a
four-barrel carb is a nice feature, this one was upgraded to the
ultra-desirable triple set of Holley dual-barrel carburetors.
Factory shorty headers feed into a dual exhaust with Hooker
mufflers, and so you know this one knows how to growl. This was
promoted when new as a 400+ hp motor in stock spec, and so it's
awesome to have the full control afforded by the four-speed. And as
you look underneath, you can see how clean the full build is. Plus,
you'll spot desirable features like front disc brakes and a
limited-slip rear end.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and some spare
components. This is the shining red Galaxie that contains one of
the best performance packages of its era. So at an affordable price
like this, you know this sharp and speedy classic won't stay long.
