Daimler/Chrysler's Performance Vehicle Operations Division and engineers from the Dodge Viper group conceived the Dodge Ram SRT-10 in 2002 and production began with the 2004 model year. The 2005 SRT-10 was based on the Ram regular cab pickup, but had many performance enhancements. (A quad-cab version was also available starting in 2005.) This SRT-10 'Yellow Fever Edition' (#169/500) is factory finished in Solar Fever w/black graphics/hood accent, front air dam and rear spoiler. Dodge 22" Viper-style alloy wheels mount Delinte performance radials and a BedRug bedliner/cover protects the bed. The all-original interior features bolstered bucket seats (similar in design to Recaro seats) upholstered in Dark Slate suede/leather and sounds are provided by a premium AM/FM/CD stereo system. Convenience and safety equipment include air conditioning, power steering, driver/passenger airbags, power tinted windows, power driver seat, power locks, keyless entry, anti-theft, tilt wheel and cruise. The Ram SRT-10 features the 8.3 liter Chrysler/Viper V-10 that produces 500bhp and 525lb/ft of torque. In July 2004 an SRT-10, with a curb weight of 5,130lb, reached a top speed of 154 mph and posted quarter mile times in the mid-13s. This Gen3 Viper V-10 utilizes an aluminum cylinder block with cast iron liners and cross-bolted main caps. It is mated to a Tremec T-56 6-speed manual gearbox (with Hurst shifter) and Dana 60 limited-slip differential with 4.10:1 gears. That said, the SRT-10 will easily cruise at highway speeds due to transmission ratios for 5th and 6th gears of .74:1 and .50:1. Standard equipment includes HD cooling package and remote oil cooler. Stopping power is provided by 4-wheel ABS disc brakes with twin-piston calipers and 15"f/14"r rotors. Brake cooling ducts are also integrated into the front fascia. A factory-tuned chassis utilizes Bilstein shocks, front/rear HD sway bars and fiberglass 4-leaf low-profile rear suspension.
