Vehicle Description
The 1971 Ford Mustang represents a cool transition as the original
pony car stretched its legs into both the muscle car and
comfortable cruiser territories. This example really seems to show
all of that off well with a cool sporty style, proper V8 power, and
plenty of proof it's a rare Spring Special edition.
1971 was a great year for the Mustang if you're a fan of American
flair. This was the first appearance of a major restyle, and it
followed Detroit's maxim of longer, lower, and wider. These cars
have nice styling touches like the line that follows the front
fender all the way into the door, and there's a recessed back panel
that gives it a sporty overhang in the rear. The Mustang was given
these elongated lines to create a meaner appearance, and aggressive
is exactly how this coupe was built to look. It's Spring Special
package, which was a promotion at the end of the model year to
drive sales with something distinct. So the base coupe received the
aggressive hood with Ram Air style scoops, a Mach 1 dark grille,
color-matched front bumper, color-matched sport mirrors, and
Boss-style side stripes. It all looks particularly nice with all
the dark features looking sporty against a bright respray of the
factory-correct Medium Yellow Gold. Not only is this attractive,
but it's also rare. It's believed that about 9k of these Spring
Specials were produced, and that makes it about three times rarer
than the Mach 1.
The factory-correct ginger has a cool/vintage vibe. It's
impressively stock, right down to details like the floor mats,
working dome lights, and texture of the door panels. Even the
classic Philco AM radio is still there for a display. Plus, the
high-back front bucket seats, the dual-spoke steering wheel, and
deeply recessed gauges have the right driver's car feeling. So this
is an ideal vintage cruiser.
Ford's 302 cubic-inch V8 looks quite good under the hood with
plenty of bright blue and tidy wires. We know these love upgrades,
but it's already a hardy setup with a torque-filled powerhouse. The
three-speed automatic transmission is a smooth shifter, and it's an
all-around good driver with power steering, and power brakes with
discs up front. There's also a nice set of newer modern raised
white letter tires on Mag 500 wheels (the stock trim rings and
hubcaps also come with the sale, too.)
This is a unique car, and so it comes with the right paperwork to
help tell its story. This includes the original window sticker,
warranty cars, and owner's manual. So if you love a substantial
pony, don't miss this Mustang. Call today!!!
