Vehicle Description
2002 Ford Taurus SEL
The Ford Taurus is an automobile that was manufactured by the Ford
Motor Company in the United States from the 1986 to 2019 model
years. Introduced in late 1985 for the 1986 model year, six
generations were produced over 34 years; a brief hiatus was
undertaken between 2006 and 2007. From the 1986 to 2009 model
years, the Taurus was sold alongside its near-twin, the Mercury
Sable; four generations of the high-performance Ford Taurus SHO
were produced (1989-1999; 2010-2019). The Taurus also served as the
basis for the first-ever front-wheel drive Lincoln Continental
(1988-2002). The original Taurus was a milestone for Ford and the
entire American automotive industry, being the first automobile at
Ford designed and manufactured using the statistical process
control ideas brought to Ford by W. Edwards Deming, a prominent
statistician consulted by Ford to bring a "culture of quality" to
the enterprise. The Taurus had an influential design that brought
many new features and innovations to the marketplace.
For consignment, a one owner 2002 Taurus SEL. Presenting with
64,487 original miles, very clean and well maintained, full leather
interior, lots of life left and plenty of get up and go!
Exterior
Factory applied Black paint bathes the combination of neoprene
crash bumpers and straight steel. A few areas of chipping offs,
wear through, dings and scuffs are present throughout the body but
nothing to detract from the overall presentation of this car. Swept
back headlights flank an oval grille, a semi-carryover from the
previous generation Taurus and melt into the fenders. Black
trimmings and body moldings keep with the ebony theme with the only
deviation being the badging and Ford blue ovals. Keypad code entry
provides interior access, and an electric sunroof is shown at the
top. Standard Ford 5 spoke wheels are seen on all 4 corners and are
wrapped in newer blackwall BF Goodrich Advantage T/A rubber.
Interior
Plenty of tan leather is covering the seating and other surfaces in
the inside of this sporty sedan. Large buckets in tan leather have
multiple electric seat adjustment buttons that can get things just
right for the driver and passenger baby bear. Some wear and soiling
is seen on the driver's outer bolsters but no tearing is evident.
In the rear is a sprawling bench seat with room for 3. A center
console houses the automatic shift lever, cupholders, and has a
storage compartment. The original dash is upfront and showing clean
with a mix of black, brown and tan all vying for space. Brown
carpeting for the floors and is protected by all-weather floor mats
and a tan headliner is tightly adhered to the roof of this
interior.
Drivetrain
A flip of the hood, and in a clean and unrestored engine bay sits
the power plant. Driving the front wheels is a 3.0 Liter 24 valve
DOHC 6 cylinder. On the back is an AX4S 4-speed automatic
transmission and a 3.77 final drive.
Undercarriage
Slight patina, some road dirt and light surface rust are seen
underneath. Floor pans and unibody are rust free and totally
structurally sound. We do see some invasive rust on the rear
mounting points of the engine cradle that will need to be remedied
in the future but all else is very nice. The stock exhaust is
suffering just a bit of surface rust but remains buttoned up with
no leaks. New independent McPherson struts are reserved for all 4
corners of this car in the suspension department, and power disc
brakes are on the front and power drums handle the rear wheel
stopping.
Drive-Ability
Slipping inside this sporty yet very comfortable leather interior,
this car fired right up, and on the test track performed just
beautifully. Great acceleration, good handling and solid braking
all add up to a wonderful 4 door family cruiser with all functions
operational. Regardless of the opinion of some, this car is fun to
drive, and the 200 horses generated by the mill is plenty to have
some fun with.
Overall a nice sporty 4 door sedan, plenty of power, and well
maintained. Nice black paint, wonderful comfy leather interior, and
ready to deliver years and miles of reliable service to the new
owner.
