Mechanical Specs
Our T-Bird is powered by a 312 cubic inch Y-block V8 engine that
was factory rated at 215 horsepower, which was the Thunderbird's
standard engine, which is sent to the rear wheels through a
three-speed automatic transmission.
Ours has what looks like an original engine compartment with all
the factory correct hoses, clamps, accessories as well as the
factory correct 4-barrel carb.
It has the dress up kit with the correct Thunderbird finned valve
covers, air cleaner that gets fresh air through the fully
functional hood scoop, factory cast iron exhaust headers, power
steering and brakes.
The exhaust system is good and it rides on body-color steel wheels
with factory chrome wheel covers that wear a set of white stripe
tires that look great.
Interior
You will like the This 1956 Ford Thunderbird as it has a two-tone
red and white vinyl upholstery on the bench seat, along with red
carpets and machine-turned trim along the door panels and
dashboard.
Additional amenities include a three-spoke steering wheel, a
floor-mounted chrome shifter, instrumentation that includes a
central 150-mph speedometer and a clock, and an upgraded stereo
radio system.
Exterior
The exterior is finished in black with a color-matching removable
porthole-window hardtop. Features include a curved-glass
windshield, removable rear fender skirts, a hood scoop, and exhaust
outlets under rear bumper.
The spare tire was moved to the outside of the trunk for the 1956
model year, and braking is provided by four wheel drums.
The bodywork, fit and finish are nicely done. The graceful fins and
body lines has straight panels and the taillight end caps round out
the rear end of the car. Other details like the Thunderbird badges,
rear bumper, and the stainless trim on the fender skirts are all
great.
