Vehicle Description
51 GMC 350 truck with a very nice electric over hydraulic dump bed!
First a little background - this truck was a truck that was in
regular use on the farm, then it was parked, I am guessing for
15-20 years, and then we were lucky enough to find it and bring it
home - so while I do my best to give an accurate description -
please keep in mind that this will need some maintenance to be a
dependable daily use vehicle again - things like belts, hoses, fuel
system, may require a little attention - It will come with come
with a good Kansas title in my name. This old truck is extremely
solid there is very little if any rust anywhere, and if you look at
the pictures of the passenger door - I just wiped it a little with
a rag and some glass cleaner, and the oxidation started to come
off. I think that if you spent an hour or two buffing/waxing - you
could get a beautiful shine. There are a couple of dings here and
there - but overall very straight. It would be a real head turner
in the local parade, or at the lumber yard picking up supplies! In
order to get it running, I installed a new battery (has been
converted to 12V with 12V generator), cleaned the points and blew
through the fuel lines and tank to open them up. The truck fired
right up and sounds great - carries good oil pressure, no bad
smoke, etc. warms up to 180 degrees and stays there. The
transmission shifts just fine, and it even has a working 2 speed
rear differential. The master cylinder for the brakes was dry so I
filled it with brake fluid, and pumped them up - this truck has
power brakes and they do work - although they will need to be bled
- this truck also has working dump bed - if you have never had one
- you will appreciate how handy it is. I do have the seat for the
truck, and the bottom is decent, but the seat back will need some
attention. Overall this is about as solid of a truck that you are
going to find, and one that can be an every day work horse with a
couple of weekends of tinkering.
