Vehicle Description
1982 Chevrolet Corvette Greenwood Coupe
The Corvette name is synonymous with sleek styling, smooth
handling, and the raw power of an American-built sports car. Anyone
who finds themselves behind the wheel of one of these beautiful
rides is surely a lucky - and affluent - driver. This Corvette
brand is one of their biggest money-makers and serves as a great
creative outlet for their engineering team. With sports cars like
Corvettes, there are far fewer limits on mechanical and aesthetic
decisions involving cost or design. This is especially important
for their Corvette Racing division - they keep Chevrolet's hold
tight on the global racing market.
For consignment a Corvette collectors dream showing up in the form
of a 1982 Vette complete with a Greenwood Daytona body kit. Street
car come Can Am style racer, many additional body panels are seen,
along with an integrated rear spoiler, louvered rear window cover,
and a cosigner stated piece from the Ken Lingenfelter Collection.
This sleek racer has undergone a recent restoration by Masterworks
Corvette Restoration and is believed to be 23,996 original miles,
however the title is exempt from mileage disclosure. Yowza!!
Exterior
We are in rare air with this Greenwood bodied 1982 Corvette. On the
Bright Blue Metallic exterior, the front quarters now flare out to
accommodate the deep mag wheels and wide tires. Air gills are just
behind these flares with swept back lines emanating from the
openings. The front of the car has been highly modified from the
original '82 version with a lengthened nose with deeply inset
grilled marker lights and equally deep fixed position rectangle
headlamps. This new and racy bumper flows back into the
aforementioned flared fenders each with a louvered air extractor on
top. The standard hood has been replaced with a Twin Turbo style
unit with more screened slats, a rear facing scoop and twin NACA
ducts on each side of the hood. As we move rearward, a "T" top has
been changed over to a targa style smoked transparent 1 piece
design, however the divider bar remains intact. The body kit
continues down low with the fenders melting into and forming
running boards with Greenwood Daytona in gold decaling. A huge side
scoop has been molded onto the doors and flows into the rear
quarters are now much wider, and flare outward from the doors,
eventually ending up framing the rounded rear with its dual iconic
round taillights, with a large screened air outlet. For the
greenhouse glass in back, black louvers have been added and a long
rear spoiler has been seamlessly added into the body. As for
badging, we see the iconic crossed flags on the fuel filler door
and these flags show again between the headlights. Precision
constructed polished lip dish mag wheels with gold woven snowflake
inserts are wrapped by 255/60R15's upfront, and 275/60R15's on back
and are all in like new condition.
Interior
Nicely padded deep blue leather door panels have a lower carpeted
panel power lock toggle and a storage pouch. The seats show just
fine age wear in the form of wrinkling, but are nicely overstuffed,
have great lumbar support, and show some minor folds on the smooth
surfaces. A center console races forward, and houses a padded top
storage bin, E brake lever, power window switches, and shifter
along with the heater and air conditioning slides. The centrally
located console rises to the dash houses a quintuplet of gauges and
the factory AM/FM/Cassette radio. In front of the driver a
rectangular design instrument panel has the tachometer,
speedometer, and a trio of warning lights. Blue carpet floods the
floors and storage area, and is nicely preserved, but does have
some fading and minimal staining. Overall the interior is nicely
presenting and clean.
Drivetrain
A numbers matching 350ci V8 with crossfire fuel injection sits in
the overstuffed and well restored engine bay A 700R4 4-speed
automatic is on back of the mill which sends power back to a
limited slip rear axle weighing in with a 2.87 ratio. Very nicely
done under the hood with clean routing of the supple hoses and
wiring.
Undercarriage
A mixture of patina, black paint, factory undercoating, and surface
rust make up the bottom side of this IMSA bodied street racer.
Independent coil springs in front and for the rear fully
independent half shafts, lateral struts, and transverse leaf
springs. Power disc brakes are all around and the exhaust is clean
and rust free.
Drive-Ability
Hopping in this car I felt like I was readying to drive the 24hrs
of Daytona. Looking sleek and cowled with flaring and a fin, it
fired right up, and we were immediately introduced to the back of
the blue leather seats. Plenty of raw power here and the crossfire
injection was performing nicely. Nice handling, and all the
creature comforts were working excepting the power antenna, power
locks and the power mirrors. A beautiful running and driving car
but you must be fully aware of the dimensions when performing tight
cornering or parallel parking.
Beautifully applied paint, a well-done restoration and some
provenance in its ownership history and you can glean just how
great this car is from the above description. Superbly modified in
mechanicals and exterior panels, she is a racing machine for the
streets right out of our Classic Auto Mall 1982 time machine!
