Motor Company mainstreamed the Special VehicleTeam (SVT) operations
and entered into a new business relationship with Carroll Shelby
and Shelby America. The SVT had engineered what was to be the
all-new SVT Mustang Cobra but later came to the market as the 2007
Ford Shelby GT500. Based on the all-new S197 Mustang platform and
equipped with a special 500+horsepower supercharged version of the
5.4-liter V-8, this modern-day Shelby GT500 took the muscle car
world by storm with looks that paid tribute to the classic Mustangs
of the 60's and produced the kind of power and performance
previously unheard of in any factory-built Ford Mustang. The car
for sale here is a low mileage example that has been well cared
for. The red color is spot on for this high-performance
convertible. The paint has been well maintained, with few if any
blemishes in the finish and the surface shines with a rich luster.
The traditional Shelby rocker-panel stripes with GT500 lettering
continue the tribute to the early Shelby cars of the late 60's.
Interestingly, the wide Le Mans style striping which was standard
on the 2007 coupes was not unavailable on the convertibles. The
power convertible top features a premium cloth. Underneath the
underbody is nearly factory fresh and most of the assembly markings
and tags are still present on the chassis. Inside, this GT500 seats
are adorned with Charcoal Black and Crimson Red leather
combination. The factory bucket seats feature lateral support and
an embossed coil snake insignia. Satin-finish aluminum trim
enhances the dash while white faced gauges with a boost gauge face
the driver. The speedometer and tachometer swap positions in the
GT500 and the SVT logo is in the tachometer and will light-up when
the engine approaches the red-line so that the driver can more
easily see when to shift. For a little extra flair the gauge
illumination can be switched between a red/blue combination to all
white. Another unique item is the steering wheel which features
palm grips and has leather wrapped with red stitching and a Cobra
logo on the steering wheel hub. This car features the optional
Shaker 1000 audio system and the GT500 Premium Interior Trim
package that includes wrapped and stitched instrument panel brow
and center console, upgraded door armrests, auto-dimming rearview
mirror with compass, and aluminum pedal covers. Just as had been
the tradition of the Cobras from the past decades the GT500 engine
was hand assembled on the niche-line at Ford's Romeo engine plant
with the engine receiving a plaque signed by the team members who
built the engine affixed to the left valve-cover. These engines
come equipped with factory forged crank, rods, and pistons and an
Eaton M122 2.0L roots style supercharger. The 5.4-litre
supercharged V-8 is the largest-displacement engine installed in a
regular production Mustang since 1973 and with 500-horsepower. To
handle this thundering horsepower and torque, power is routed
through a heavy-duty Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual gearbox. For the
Shelby GT500the TR6060 is geared to make the most of the
5.4-liter's healthy power band. The rear differential is the heavy
duty 8.8-inch gear-set with a 3.31:1 gear ratio with limited
slip. With 500 supercharged horsepower lurking beneath the hood, the
GT500 requires some upgrades to the suspension and brakes to keep
the car on the road. Stiffer springs along with Tokico struts and
shocks slightly lower the car and sharpen the handling over
standard Mustangs. Despite its bigger, heaver engine up front, the
GT500 still corners flat thanks to the use of stiffer stabilizer
bars. Up front the GT500 convertible features
