Vehicle Description
As a muscle car enthusiast, when you see or hear the name "Shelby",
you immediately think about their mega-dollar 2-seater Cobras along
with the classic Shelby Mustangs built from 1965 through 1970.
Owning one of these rare Mustangs is on the bucket list of many
collectors and car lovers alike, but finding the right one in the
condition you'd expect can be a challenge - until now.
The team at LaFontaine Classic Cars is proud to present this
incredible 1969 Shelby GT500 that has undergone a complete,
professional, rotisserie restoration by ""Legendary Motorcars"" in
Canada during previous ownership. The details are concours quality,
from top to bottom including the smallest of details.
The refurbishing process included countless hours blocking and
sanding the body panels to achieve ultra-smooth, flat surfaces for
the new color code "A" Raven Black hue (original color was Silver
Jade). There is no denying the beauty of a clean, straight, black
Shelby GT500 going down the road on a sunny summer day - and this
vision is now a reality.
While the body was being reassembled, the drivetrain components
were disassembled, inspected and rebuilt to factory specifications.
1969 was the first year of the 428 "Cobra Jet" designation - prior
to that, the engine was simply called a 428, both versions were
factory rated at 335 horsepower with stump pulling torque coming in
at 445-foot pounds! This GT500's 428CJ power plant appears as it
did the day the car left the assembly line. Two pumps of the gas
pedal, then a twist of the ignition key brings this engine to life
with the sound of muscle that is music to your ears.
Sending the power rearward is a C6 "Cruise-O-Matic" 3 speed
automatic transmission providing crisp, firm shifts upon those
moments of aggressive acceleration. Applying the horsepower to the
ground is a factory Ford 9" rear axle, the strongest offered in
1969. The "bolt-in" axle center section houses a "Traction-Lok"
differential allowing equal power distribution to both rear tires
while spinning the stock 3.50 gears, perfect for both highway
cruising as well as those Saturday night match-ups from light to
light.
This Shelby still retains it's rare and very difficult to find
components and accessories adding to the desirability of this
particular car. From the original engine to the factory installed
Holley carburetor (list #4609 / C9AF-9510-U), to the original
steering wheel and wood shifter handle. Near flawless original
glass, chrome and stainless brightwork, vented fiberglass hood and
cast aluminum center exhaust tips were all reused. Extra time was
taken to research replacement parts when items are worn to make
sure the correct appearing components are used. Some of the new
items installed during the restoration include: a reproduction fuel
tank, all brake lines and hoses, power steering lines and
components, period correct distributor with correct plug wires and
coil, new shocks on all 4 corners, correct air cleaner assembly,
proper radiator and related hoses, correct emblems inside and out,
with new 5-spoke Shelby wheels wearing BFGoodrich Radial tires for
the classic look and smooth ride.
Looking underneath shows the primed and painted undercarriage and
beautiful floorboards, factory appearing pinch welds with an
exceptionally solid subframe. All sheet metal is in excellent
condition with no signs of rust or corrosion, the torque boxes and
wheel wells are all clean and painted with factory style chalk
markings and assembly line decals throughout.
The interior is stunning - all of the wood grain inserts are
intact, the door panels, seats, headliner and carpet look beautiful
along with the fold down rear seat and close out trim panels. The
dash is in excellent condition with all gauges functioning along
with the wipers, center console gauges, dome light and push-button
AM radio.
Included with the sale is a Deluxe Marti Report and many receipts
for work performed
