Vehicle Description
This 1986 Buick Grand National is an ideal all-around classic. It
is a highly sought-after turbocharged midnight machine. And this
example has had added investments in keeping it looking slick,
having it handle sharper, and making it even quicker. So it
enhances what we love while keeping the vintage style that keeps it
so memorable.
The Grand Nationals are cherished classics because they really took
Buick over to the dark side. So all the best pieces are still in
place. The blacked-out trim, the bulging hood, and the full-width
ducktail spoiler, all give this car a look that demands respect.
But that's just the baseline for this car. There has been an
awesome respray of the black paint that makes the finish look as
shiny and hard as volcanic glass. And the newer grille and deeply
tinted windows are also part of a way to be mindful of the
collectability while enhancing the attitude. After all, it retains
a stock exterior look, right down to the few pieces that aren't as
mean as midnight, like the special Grand National badges and those
polished 15-inch factory alloys.
The interior is loaded, comfortable, and of course, highly
original. The low mileage (averaging under 1,300 miles annually)
means you're going to see few signs of anyone spending time here.
So you get to appreciate the crisp look of everything, right down
to the Grand National logos in the bucket seat's wide headrest.
This time capsule experience is also a luxury one with power
windows, power locks, power steering, cruise control, an
AM/FM/cassette stereo, and the factory air conditioning upgraded to
R134a to stay blowing nice and cold. The three-spoke sports
steering wheel is on a tilt column. It has a well-done design that
gives you a clear view of the full instrument package - including
the cool horizontal tach and turbo boost gauge. Plus, there are
auxiliary readouts on the center console and upgraded ones on the
A-pillar.
What really makes this one so special is what's under the hood. The
3.8-liter fuel-injected V6 turbo motor turned this Buick into a
Corvette contender. And because the powerplant is so essential,
this one has received some big investments. It includes an upgraded
turbo with upgraded air intake. There's also an adjustable fuel
pressure regulator, a mass air flow controller, and Alky Methanol
injection. You can even open up the cutout on the exhaust to get
some added pre-muffler growl. The suspension has also received
solid investments to keep it feeling tight on the road, including
boxed rear trailing arms, an upgraded rear sway bar, and Bilstein
shocks. But remember, the four-speed automatic transmission is not
only there for quick shifting action but also for overdrive
comfort. And there's also power steering, power brakes, and front
discs. So you'll get just as much pleasure out of this one chewing
up the asphalt as you will cruising under the midnight neon.
The sale comes complete with stock parts like the turbocharger and
grille. This is a low-mileage, sharp-looking, and extra-powerful
example of one of the most desirable cars of its era. Call
