Vehicle Description
1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe
The use of words such as "Special" "Deluxe" "Custom" "Special
Deluxe" "Custom Deluxe" hit an all-time high in the 1940's with
every other manufacturer using these descriptive monikers for the
naming of their car. Some of these were associated with trim
levels, others were the actual name of the car, denoting overall
quality. Even though there were many thousands of examples of each
model in the public domain, the individual owner was led to the
premise that they were literally the only one driving this model of
car!
For consignment, a 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe 2 door coupe that
has been beautified and rodded. Smoothing, frenching and shaving
along with a fuel injected V8, automatic overdrive transmission,
air conditioning, a modernized interior, and a periwinkle body...I
think I'm in love!
Exterior
This example is what happens when you start with a beautiful design
and play a bit to make it even better. French the lights on the
body, shave the unnecessary badges and all that other extra weight,
smooth all the body lines, then drench the entire body in Lapis
Blue and you now have an example of the 41 bowtie that looks better
than when it rolled off the factory floor. Only a few minor chip
offs and scratches are noted in the paint, meanwhile no rust or
bubbling is noted. Rounded lines are accentuated tastefully by
frenched headlights and the shiny red pinstriped grille. The door
handles have also been shaved and we see body colored aerodynamic
mirrors on both doors. A V-butt 2 pane windshield leads back to the
factory roofline which flows down and melts into the trunk lid and
pontoon style rear fender. A smoothed roll pan is just under the
shaved and smoothed trunk and on each rear fender we note deeply
frenched in 1967 Corvette taillights. The bulbous fenders frame
15-inch Billet Specialties 5 spoke highly polished wheels all
wrapped in staggered width blackwall rubber. Quite the Chattanooga
Choo Choo coming down the tracks right at you and your garage.
Interior
As we swing the doors the modding and rodding plays on like a Glen
Miller band with a total custom leather interior. A one and a
two...and we start with charcoal black leather custom door panels
that feature Lapis Blue steel on the sills and upper window
surrounds, and embossing for the main panels which feature a lazy
curving armrest and billet handles. Black carpeting covers the
lowers and all the floors. Floating in the interior are wonderful
modern leather powered high back buckets in front, and an equally
as snappy 3 seater rear bench with a fold down and pass through
center armrest. Purple highlights have been sewn into the seat
uppers and create some eye candy amongst the sea of black. Plenty
of legroom for these passengers and lots of the black carpeting to
rub their toes into while being whisked in total style down the
road. A custom Lapis Blue center console races between the buckets
before meeting the bottom of the dash. Within this console are the
power window actuators, LED lit cup holders, and a touchscreen
AM/FM stereo. I can grab the black rimmed 4 metal spoked wheel and
peer into the dash which has been modified to hold a long thin oval
with full digital gauges. Vintage Air and heat are in, and some
machined billet pulls operate various functions.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 Chevrolet engine now is shoehorned into the bay, and it
is fed by throttle body injection which is topped by a chrome air
cleaner assembly. More Lapis Blue for the valve covers and for some
extra dress up we note a Billet Specialties Front Runner serpentine
belt set up and billet wire looms. Bolted to the back of this mill
is a 4L60E 4-speed automatic tranny which sends the power to a
10-bolt Positraction rear axle with 3.55 gearing.
Undercarriage
Solid steel all rust free sprayed in black, and all buttoned up
sums it up underneath. Dual Flowmaster exhaust runs from the mill
to the rear oval chromed tubes. Along the way they pass a 1978
Monte Carlo independent coil sprung front suspension with 2" drop
spindles and leaf springs on the rear. Also, they go by power front
disc braking and power drums in the rear.
Drive-Ability
Like slipping into the past when entering this rad rod. All leather
and you can breathe it in. A quick starter and after thanks to the
fuel injection, a warmup wasn't necessary. Excellent acceleration,
solid braking and really tight handling were the norms on this test
drive. All functions were working like it was built yesterday.
The 1940's were a great era for the manufacturers and the designers
really stepped it up a notch. Running boards were disappearing and
machining was looking much like it was done on an english wheel.
This pastel master deluxe, with snazzy body mods, a powerful engine
and a leather interior is ready to beat the band. Get in, sit down,
shut up and HOLD ON!!
