The origin of the Z/28 nameplate came from the RPO codes GM used to identify certain options - RPO Z28 was the code for the Special Performance Package. The Z/28 option code was first introduced in December 1966 for the 1967 model year. It was the brainchild of Vince Piggins, who conceived offering virtually race-ready Camaros for sale from any Chevrolet dealer. The Z/28 option featured a high-output small-block 302 cu in (4.9 L) V-8 that had been designed for racing in the 5 litre (305 cu in) class in the Trans-Am racing series. Advertised power of the 302 was an under-rated by the factory at 290 hp. The actual peak for the high-revving 302 was closer to 360 hp with the single four-barrel carb and 400 hp with optional dual-four-barrel carbs at 6800-7000 rpm. The Z/28 also came with upgraded suspension, front disc power brakes, and a 4-speed Muncie manual transmission. Posi-traction was available as an option and 15-inch rally wheels were included with Z/28s while all other 1967-9 Camaros had 14-inch wheels. The Z/28 came adorned with wide racing stripes on the hood and trunk lid (that could be optioned-out a no charge), and Z/28 emblems in 1969. As shown on the car featured here it was also possible to combine the Z/28 package with the RS package. The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 RS featured here is truly stunning. It recently underwent a restoration just 300 miles ago. The brilliant Hugger Orange paint has been professionally applied over well executed body work. The paint shines with a rich luster and this car will certainly draw attention whether cruising your local strip or on the show field. The underneath of this California origin car is clean and free of any rust. The hideaway R/S optioned headlights just add to the cool factor of this car. Under the hood sits the numbers matching drivetrain, the 302 CID four barrel with Muncie close ratio transmission. The engine compartment is well restored and presents as factory fresh and the engine rumbles through the factory chambered exhaust. The chassis is accurately restored and completely rebuilt including new brake and fuel lines as well new bushing and factory bushings. This car is tight with no rattles, perhaps rolls done the road better than it did when this car was new. The black deluxe interior is the perfect complement to the orange exterior. It remains all original in incredible preserved condition. Vintage Stewart Warner gauges monitor the engine vitals along with an Auto-Meter tachometer help you manage those high revving power shifts. This freshly restored Z-28 presents the opportunity for you to own the one of the most iconic cars of the era when muscle ruled the streets. This car is remarkable to drive with 4 speed and rumbling exhaust and will be the hit car shows and cruise-ins.
