Vehicle Description
Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta is truly proud to offer this super
clean and beautiful 1974 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in a slick
metallic silver paint job over black interior. We are super excited
about this Karmann Ghia in particular, not only because of the
clean paint and body, but also because of the documentation to
prove that this car was owned by 2 people since new previously to
our consignor. That's right, this is a 2 owner Karmann Ghia since
it was sold from the dealership. To be exact, this Ghia was sold by
Gene Thompson Motors in Richmond Indiana. The original owner, Rose
Clark, worked at the Richmond State Hospital (hospital for the
mentally ill) when she purchased the vehicle. At that time
employees had the option of living on grounds of the hospital in
small apartments for low rent. For many years she lived and worked
in the same location, so these were very easy years for the Ghia.
In front of the owner's manual is the original owner's card with
her name and address. She kept the Ghia until she passed away, and
then it was auctioned and sold to our consignor.
Green was the original color when little miss Rose would drive the
Ghia around the hospital campus, and the consignor states that the
car has since been repainted and restored in 2004. A truly
beautiful metal patch was added to the back of the Ghia, reading
"Bundesrepublick Deutchland" which is an unofficial abbreviation
for the Federal Republic of Germany. There is plenty of
documentation to back this statement, including but not limited to
tons of receipts, history outlines, original warranty voucher,
vehicle identification card, copy of original Indiana title, and
pictures that follow the restoration. With this Karmann Ghia being
the nicest that we at Collectible Motorcar have ever seen, the
documentation that comes along with it is nothing short of on
par.
The interior is just as nice as the exterior, and includes a few
small tasteful upgrades that sway it away from factory, but nothing
arrogant. An upgraded JVC head unit with Kenwood speakers allow for
the driver to listen to some tunes while cruising along, and 2
auxiliary gauges allow for readout of your RPM's and fuel level.
The 1600cc motor can be found removed from the Ghia in one of the
photos in the gallery, and the consignor stated that the motor was
rebuilt and refreshed in '04 as well. After driving this car, we
definitely believe it and believe whoever did the heart transplant
must work on classic Volkswagen's in his sleep. Not only does the
motor sound and run as it should, the gearbox shifts like butter as
well. The brakes are in line with the quality of the rest of the
car as well, with disc brakes on all four corners that make
stopping a breeze. Gripping the road and surrounding the 8-spoke,
4-lug mini lite style wheels are 15 inch Kumho Ectsa tires which
looks correct. Dual exhausts which leave in the rear provide a
smooth and soothing sound of the engine, and adds a nice touch to
the look of the Ghia. Don't miss your chance to own this 3-owner
since new piece of Volkswagen history, call today!
