Vehicle Description
1985 Cadillac Eldorado Commemorative Edition
The tenth generation Eldorado debuted in 1979, continuing as a
rebadged variant of the Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado. This
model was successful in terms of annual production totals compared
with the ninth and eleventh generations. The model set an all-time
Eldorado sales record in 1984 of 77,806 (coupes and convertibles),
accounting for about 26% of all Cadillacs sold. Late in the 1985
model year, an optional "Commemorative Edition" package was
announced, in honor of the last year of production for this version
of the Eldorado. Exclusive features included gold-tone script and
tail-lamp emblems, specific sail panel badges, gold-background
wheel center caps, and a Commemorative Edition badge on the
steering wheel horn pad. Leather upholstery (available in dark blue
or white, or a two-tone with dark blue and white) was included in
the package, along with a dark blue dashboard and carpeting.
Exterior colors were cotillion white or commodore blue.
Offered for consignment is one of the rarest and sought-after
Cadillac's of the 1980's. This 41,552 original mile 1985 Cadillac
Eldorado Commemorative Edition is 1 of less than 200 made at the
end of 1985. Cadillac Dealers offered Eldorado's with special
package offers to a few select dealerships to commemorate the very
last year of the 2-door Eldorado. In fact, these cars did not even
make it into the sales literature since the literature had already
been printed at the beginning of the year. This Eldorado is even
considerably rarer than the 1985 Biarritz Convertible, 200 versus
2300. To make this particular Commemorative Edition Eldorado even
more rare is the color. Our consignor believes this to be the only
two-tone Blue and White Eldorado in existence. The colors available
were Cotillion White or Commodore Blue. Approximately 80 were
painted Commodore Blue and 120 were Cotillion White. This car is 1
of the Commodore Blue models. After being delivered from the
factory to Faulkner Cadillac Inc. located in Trevose, PA. the
dealer gave even more options to customers. The base Eldorado
sticker was around $21,958.00 whereas this Eldorado had a sticker
price of $26,877.00, not included on invoice are the 2 toned paint,
leather roof, trunk package, gold grille and spoked rims. Talk
about one seriously rare Caddy!
Exterior
This meticulously cared for one owner garage kept car displays a
beautiful exterior, showing some minor faults, but overall, very
straight and good gaps. The Commemorative Edition features special
badging, a heavily padded blue top, a dealership added gold
eggcrate grille behind the chrome corral, a faux wire wheel spare
on top of the trunk lid, and wire spoke wheel covers. Also, a
dealer applied custom paint scheme was added to the car, Cotillion
White for the upper flat surfaces and below the belt line the
factory applied Commodore Blue. Separating this wonderful two-tone
scheme is a tri-colored pinstripe in dark blue, gold and light
blue. Highlighting the wheel wells are thin chrome moldings and
covering the rockers and lower body panels is a near flawless
stainless wide strip. The chrome and brite work are in very good
corrosion free condition, and they couple nicely with Cadillac
chrome spoked wheel covers wrapped in nearly new rubber to add to
the overall "bling" and class of the vehicle. A shout out to the
trunk with its deep pile carpeting, spare tire and Cadillac crest
protective mat. A new electric trunk pull down has recently been
installed so closing will always be trouble free.
Interior
Swinging open the heavy but well balanced doors, (think bank vault
quality), we are met with a mix of blue leather, wood applique and
white leather all vying for space on the long luxurious doors.
These hues are wonderfully accentuated by the abundance of chrome
for the power seat toggles, power window, power lock, door
actuators and mirror joystick. The interior features heavily padded
leather seating in a wonderful blue and white finish. Cadillac
embossed logos show at the top of each seat, given we see a split
front bench and a spacious back bench. All seating shows very
slight wear for the age. The dash and a mix of digital and analog
instrumentation are original, and no chips or cracks are evident on
the plentiful veneered dash. The matching blue steering wheel is in
good condition and is not only tiltable but also telescopic. Dead
center in the dash is the digital climate control and just below is
the factory AM/FM/Cassette Stereo. The headliner is free of any
blemishes, and in good condition with no fading or tears. The deep
pile plush blue carpeting throughout, is generally clean and is
begging for me to remove my loafers and sample the softness with my
bare tootsies.
Drivetrain
Under the long steel hood is a 4100HT 4.1 Liter V8 powered by
digital fuel injection which spins a TH325-4L 4-speed automatic
overdrive transmission, that offers accelerating power as well as
maintaining fuel efficiency on long trips. Turning the front tires
is a 3.15 geared axle. The engine bay is near showroom condition
with a multitude of supple hoses, wiring and ducting. A new
alternator is noted along with information from our consignor
stating that the water pump was replaced along with the timing
cover, intake and valve cover gaskets. Also, the air conditioning
system was retrofitted to R-134A
Undercarriage
An underside view shows a mix of black paint, factory undercoating,
slight patina and surface rust on untreated components, all of
which created a strong solid environment ready to last for years to
come. Independent torsion bar suspension is on in the front and for
the rear we note an independent coil spring arrangement with a
factory rear sway bar. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners and
we see a single exhaust system with a stock style muffler and
resonator, however the resonator does have rust through and will
need to be replaced.
Drive-Ability
I just can't get enough of these heavily padded leather seats.
There is something warm and fuzzy about perfectly aged and soft
broken in leather, it is durable, caressing...but...I digress, and
this car started right up, ran flawlessly, and is a wonderful
comfortable cruiser with a kick, add in all the power accessories
and you're in luxury heaven.
The final year for the truly collectible Eldorado's before
downsizing became the norm. Add in the sheer collectability of a
low production edition with low miles and complete with the
original window sticker, tons of recent maintenance all from a
careful and caring owner. A luxury classic that runs well, looks
great, and has room for bringing around some extra friends. I can
imagine a night at the club, laughing at each other's success
stories, and then riding home in pure comfort...mmmmmmmm
delicious!
