HIGHLIGHTS
Daniel Schmitt & Co. is extremely proud to present one of the most incredibly preserved examples of an exceedingly rare, factory coach-built neo-classic; #200 only 248 1979 Clenet Series I Roadster ever produced. The legacy of Clenet began with a young French designer named Alain Clenet who had tired of corporate auto industry politics and decided to leave his career as an industry consultant and build his dream car. At the age of just 33, he assembled a team of craftsmen and brokered a deal with Ford Motor Company to supply Lincoln Continental frames, engines, and components.
From their 40,000 square-foot factories in Santa Barbara, California, each car was painstakingly crafted with the only goal being to make the finest car in the world. At the time of production, Clenets were often compared to Rolls-Royces, as they were appointed using the same English Connolly leather, walnut wood from the same forest, and same wool carpet as the famed luxury marque with build quality to match. However, it could be argued that compared to a Clenet, a Rolls-Royce is positively mass-produced. So very few Clenets were ever constructed, that seeing one today is the rarest of automotive sightings. Many of them were sold new to celebrity owners.
This 1979 Clenet Series I Roadster featured here is finished in stunning all-black over gorgeous black Connolly leather interior and has traveled just 6,42 miles since new. Maintained in climate-controlled storage this truly remarkable example exhibits the care it received over the years. There is no more coveted, more luxurious, better-built neo-classic in existence and this is likely the finest example of the marque on earth. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire one of the finest, most desirable custom coach-built automobiles ever created. We are proud to offer this 1979 Clenet Series I Roadster to the most astute collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires the very best.
