Vehicle Description
HIGHLIGHTS: Clean old Land Cruiser! Street ready RHD diesel FJ
(BJ)! 4-speed manual hooked up to a Toyota 3.0l diesel!
BODY OVERVIEW: The body on this Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser is very
nice! This vehicle appears to have seen a restoration in the past,
and it shows. It's clean and straight-something of a rarity on
these old FJs! There are some areas of corrosion underneath, which
are shown in the photos.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: Though no restoration documentation is
available, it appears that this truck was restored around 15 years
ago. The paint has some defects as shown in the photos, but it has
a great shine to it, and a surprising amount of depth given the
color choice. This old thing is sure to stand out in a crowd-even
in a crowd of FJs, since it is RHD and a diesel!
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: The interior condition is perhaps the
most pleasantly surprising aspect of this truck. These hardy old
Toyota rigs aren't known for their luxurious interiors, and this FJ
isn't really an exception. However, the two-tone vinyl bucket seats
are comfortable and in great condition, and the matching rear jump
seats are a huge plus. The knobs, buttons, steering wheel, etc. are
all in used but good condition.
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: At this point, if you're thinking "that's not
an FJ, that's a BJ!" then you would be correct! This is a RHD,
non-USDM vehicle marketed as the BJ variant of the FJ Land
Cruisers. Under the hood is a Toyota 3.0 liter diesel, which
would've been the factory engine for this vehicle. Like any Toyota
worth its reputation, the diesel absolutely springs to life at a
turn of the key and runs very smoothly. While this engine may not
be a big, V8 powerhouse, it is more than adequate for this type of
vehicle and torquey enough to be fun. The 4-speed manual
transmission shifts as smoothly as one can expect of a utility
vehicle, and would certainly be the preferred choice in
transmission for anyone looking to do any sort of off-roading. This
Toyota runs, drives, and stops great!
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: This is a good, honest, quirky and
unique little Toyota and the pure simplicity of these older Land
Cruisers is very appealing. This one is easy on the eyes and fun to
drive, so it leaves little to be desired!
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: The RHD aspect isn't for
everyone. While it is easier to adjust to than you may think, it is
certainly not the same as a 'normal' LHD car.
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? The reverse lights and oil pressure gauge
are not currently operational.
WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? Anyone who has been seeking a
clean, unique, capable, fun offroad Jeep alternative should give
this BJ40 a serious look!
