Vehicle Description
You won't see many cars that have come through more than four
decades still looking anywhere near as good as this 1981 Chevrolet
Corvette. It's been looked after well during that time and will
arrive at its new owner's garage with a shiny new paint job and
turn-key ready condition.
This late C3 Corvette makes an impression right away, with its
distinctive Dark Green Metallic paint in strong driver-quality form
- a shade that will not only wow you with its appearance, but also
help it stand out from the red, white, and black Corvettes
typically seen out on the road. The driver-quality finish was
recently applied, and although it wasn't some $20K application
without an imperfection in sight, it still looks great from a
couple feet away, especially when it's glistening under the sun.
Coming close to rounding out the last of the third generation
Corvettes, this '81 also had the benefit of some refinements that
add to its curb appeal, while at the same time, make it more
aerodynamic than its predecessors. There are great '80s styling
cues everywhere you look, from its shark-like nose, with hidden
headlights sitting flush, to the gill like vents on its front
fenders - Corvettes drew a good amount of inspiration from the Mako
shark at one point - to the flowing rear fenders and compact
spoiler on the deck lid. The sloping rear windshield adds to its
futuristic look while providing great visibility, and its T-Top
configuration, with panels that fit well and are in solid
condition, is a big plus - open air driving whenever you want it,
with easily installed protection from the elements when you
don't.
The original blue interior has been looked after throughout years,
and the overall solid cabin now offers a mixture of old and new
components that give it a unique vibe inside. Bucket seats have
plenty of support to hold you in place while canyon-carving and
those two-tone seat covers are a nice touch over the original blue
cloth. There are a nice number of comfort features on board here,
including a steering column that both tilts and telescopes so that
you can find the perfect position, cruise control, power locks,
power windows and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/AUX player to handle your
tunes while you're out on the road. It's a great driving
environment - that substantial Corvette steering wheel has a nice
feel to it and the dash area just beyond is in solid shape, with an
assortment of easily readable gauges that extend down to the center
console - a stylistic nod to previous generations of Corvettes
known for the extensive instrumentation they carry. And yes, that
woodgrain screams early '90s Escalade decadence, but it actually
doesn't look quite as misplaced in person.
Raise the lengthy hood and you'll find the C3's most common dancing
partner - a 350 cubic inch V8 armed with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb
sitting in the tidy engine compartment, with its Holley chrome air
cleaner and matching Summit Racing valve covers adding a little
flash. The engine teams with a 3-speed automatic TH350 transmission
that's also in good form - providing slip-free, precise shifts.
Power 4-wheel disc brakes and smooth power steering make this '80s
classic an easy navigator that will come to a prompt stop when
called for as it cruises on its set of 15" stock Corvette wheels,
wrapped with Cooper Cobra whit-letter radials.
