For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro in Ocala, Florida

Vehicle Description

Picture this if you will.....It's October 5th, 1969, the checkered flag is out over Riverside Raceway in California, storming around the final corner is Mark Donohue in his iconic dark blue Penske/Sunoco 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Crossing the finish line in first place in the hotly contested over 2 liter class of the SCCA Trans Am series, Donohue takes the drivers Championship and hands Chevrolet the Manufacturers Championship. It is literally, a win-win situation that day for Chevrolet. Chevrolet went on to score another win with customers that year selling the Z/28 Camaro that was used to homologate all those go fast parts for racing. SCCA rules required all cars to be production based, so if Chevrolet wanted to race the Camaro with the 302CI V-8 on the track, it had to be available for the street also. The 1969 Camaro Z/28 you see here is one of those limited production specials, equipped with the legendary DZ302 V8. Chevrolet started with a 283 crankshaft bolted into a 327 engine block, making that magical 302CI displacement, just under the SCCA 305CI/5.0L limit. This large bore, short stroke design meant that this little powerhouse could rev easily to 7000rpm while producing reliable horsepower. This was just what the doctor ordered for hardcore road racing. Keeping this race motor on boil is a close ratio M21 four speed manual transmission, that works with a G80 Posi traction 12-bolt rear axle housing a 3.73 rear gear. Heavy duty springs and shock absorbers help this Z to corner better than any other muscle car of it's day, while the J52 power disc brakes work to scrub speed off quickly. Other options on this gorgeous Z/28 are A01 tinted glass, D55 center console, D80 rear spoiler, N33 tilt steering column, N34 wood wheel, U17 special instrumentation, and of course that ZL2 cowl induction hood feeding those two thirsty Holley's on an aluminum cross-ram manifold. Finished in Dover white over black vinyl interior, this Z/28 is in better condition than when it was new. Showing only thirty miles since a complete nut and bolt restoration in 2019, this muscle machine drives as new. The sound emanating from the chambered exhaust are intoxicating, along with the smell of hi test fuel necessary to keep this beast happy. Purchased new from H&H Chevrolet in Omaha, Nebraska on June 20th of 69', this Z/28 was loved by it's original owner until it was sold in March of 1989, some 20 odd years later. The original title is still with the car today, along with NCRS shipping data report, and a Certificate of Authenticity by renowned Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish. It is a fully numbers matched car, to include engine, transmission, and rear axle. This Camaro is a blast to drive, pulls hard under acceleration, and handles corners with ease. It is a true blue chip collector quality automobile, and is sure to appreciate further in the future. Contact Brian at 352-307-1968 and put this amazing muscle machine in your garage today!
