Vehicle Description
1936 Chevrolet Deluxe FA Coupe
"Mamma always said life is like a box of chocolates, you never know
what you are going to get!" In a way Classic Auto Mall works on the
same theory, in that one never knows what is coming through the
door, but most times its sweet!
For consignment, a real sweet treat in the form of a blue and
checkered all steel 1936 Chevrolet coupe. Very tasty looking and
tastefully crafted retaining the original lines but custom with
custom taillights, shaved bumpers and of course those 15-inch Weld
wheels and huge rear tires. It is just dripping with visual flavor,
and all packaged up ready to be gifted to its new owner. All in hot
rod form, this 36 is a head turner.
Exterior
Already starting with a gorgeous design, the builder of this car
decided to make some improvements but still retain the all steel
Chevrolet body. Shaved bumpers front and rear, custom taillights,
along with body colored and chrome trimmed headlights hanging off
of either side on the cowled hood. The turn signals have been
removed on the front, but this does not detract from the long oval
vertically ribbed grille, which presents very nicely. The radiator
surround is bathed in Petty Blue which rises to the hood and
continues throughout the body including the center hinged hood, the
curvaceous fenders, running boards and doors. Torn into the paint
on the hood cowling, doors, and rear quarter panel is a checkered
flag motif complete with "cracks" emanating from the jagged edges.
Tinted glass is reserved for the rear and side glass, and custom
curved modern rear view side mirrors are attached to both doors.
Adding a second layer to the box we note an electrically operated
fresh air cowl, shaved door handles, and a motorized trunk lid. To
further sugar coat this car, 15-inch Weld Draglite wheels are
wrapped with 26x7.50-15's in front, and 31 x 15.50-15 steamrollers
on the back. The bow on top is provided by dual tailpipes peeking
out from under the center rear custom roll pan. Cherry!
Interior
Digging a bit deeper into our box we swing the suicide hinged doors
and find a Barley zig zag pattern door coverings in leather which
is highlighted by Barley broadcloth, a billet styled door actuator
is also on. Moving inside we see a low backed split bench seat
adorned with smooth overstuffed bolsters on the upper cushion along
with a heavily padded insert all of which is separated by a fold
down armrest. The lower cushion stretches door to door and is made
up of smooth bolsters and single stitched tuck and roll for the
inserts. A tasty Petty Blue covered steel dash front houses a bevy
of round AutoMeter white faced gauges all fronted by a shiny billet
styled rally wheel. This dash is highlighted above and below by
Barley padding and on the lower are the outlets for the AC and
controls for the hidden stereo system. On the rounded inner roof is
a very tight and seamless fuzzy broadcloth headliner in beige and
more beige for the carpeting that floods the floors and a billet
style shifter in its own leather consolette is noted in the center.
Power windows are noted, and their controls are in the glovebox
along with the power trunk and cowl switches. A shout to the trunk
which is all fixed up and has a custom fabricated covers for the
wheel tubs. Suh-weeeet!
Drivetrain
With some cars we need to sugar coat the description to make it
sound better, but this car is fully enjoyed right out of the box.
Some of that enjoyment comes from the 350ci V8 engine now stuffed
under the cowled hood. It is all shiny and polished with neatly
organized wiring and a polished intake grabbing fuel from a Holley
750cfm carburetor. A full MSD ignition system is on to light the
fire reliably. On the back is a turbo 350 automatic transmission
and sends power to a Ford 9" rear axle. All beautifully appointed
with plenty of chrome and polished aluminum and the ripped in
checkered flag wraps around the firewall for just that extra bit of
sweetness.
Undercarriage
No rust, just a perfectly painted and restored undercarriage
consisting of straight Petty Blue steel. Up front a Mustang II
suspension with adjustable coilovers is now on and on back a ladder
bar with more adjustable coilovers is seen. Aerospace brakes disc
brakes are on all 4 corners, and a Flowmaster exhaust is noted
ending in dual pipes out the rear. Looking just great in Petty blue
is the narrowed rear axle assembly which was done to accommodate
the large rear tires.
Drive-Ability
Not unlike its candy references I've given it, this car is
difficult to only have 1 ...lap around the test track so I took
several and enjoyed the flavor of plenty of power, smooth as silk
shifting, and tasty handling. Driving this car is definitely a
sugar rush!
A beautiful job with all stones turned over on the restoration,
interior and power train. Excellent color combo, some yummy shaving
and Weld Draglite wheels and massive rear rubber. Just reach in and
sample all of it right here in the Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto
Mall. MMMM...MMMM Good!
