Melanson Motors is proud to offer this stunning 1966 Sunbeam Tiger MK 1A. The Sunbeam Tiger was the V-8 powered, high performance version of the Alpine. Designed by The Rootes Group in England, with help from Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles. A Ford 260ci V8 was wedged into the small Alpine body with upgrades to the suspension, transmission and rear end to accommodate the increase in horsepower. This Tiger is presented in the beautiful combination of Oxford Blue over black with both hard top and soft top. Originally a lighter Mediterranean Blue, the car was repainted in the late 90s. The paint still shows very well, with no fading or bubbles. Minimal cracking and chips from pleasure use are present. The interior is in excellent shape and benefits from a recent refurbishment. New seat covers, walnut dash, door panels, dash pad, carpet and more have been added. The car comes with the rare radio kit and clock option. All the Smith instrumentation is clear and functional. A LearJet AM/FM radio with Cassette has been added. This Sunbeam lived most of its life in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It spent recent years on the east coast of Canada and now resides in Ontario.

The engine is a non-numbers matching 1964 Windsor 260ci V-8. Many original parts were added to the replacement block, including the original valve covers with stampings and an AC England air filter housing. An original fan shroud is also installed. An engine out service was performed in 2019 and included new engine seals, a new clutch, a new water pump, and a radiator flush. This 260 has an Offenhauser intake manifold and a Holley 4 barrel carburetor. The engine starts well and runs great. The transmission is a 4-speed toploader and shifts very smoothly.

15” VTO wheels replace the original 13” and fit very well with no rubbing or obstructions. The car is stopped by front discs and rear drums. It has had a recent brake service including new e-brake components. As do most Tiger owners, the previous owner installed rear traction bars to prevent wheel hop. Underneath, this Tiger is very solid and rust free. “Ziebart” undercoating was applied by previous owners and helped protect the car. It is not hiding anything as I have chipped away at it in several different spots to find like-new steel underneath. This is a special opportunity to purchase a very collectible, classic roadster. A proven winning combination of American V8 power in an English body. Having been engineered with Carroll Shelby, these Tigers are a rare and impressive car!
