1951 Packard Patrician: Luxurious and Loved
All one needs to do is listen (if you can hear it) to this Packard’s engine to know why our ‘51 Patrician was one of America’s premier cars. Quiet running, smartly styled, elegant interior, smooth to drive: that’s what Packards were known for and why this Patrician has been owned and loved by the same Virginia family since 1954.
Restored and Pampered
This 1951 Packard Patrician was the owners’ pride and joy:
Nice from Top to Bottom
The re-spray of this Packard in its original Black was well done in 1982 but showing its age now.
The major chrome trim (bumpers, grill, etc.) is all in very nice condition, setting off the stateliness of the car.
The underside of this Packard had prior corrosion repair accomplished on the passenger-side floors in 1983. The inner rocker panel on the passenger side has been replaced and the one the driver’s side is in need of a similar repair (see pictures). There are additional areas of rust repair or where the need for repairs would be indicated.
The tan broadcloth interior is clean and fresh-looking having been replaced in 1983, and as one would expect, the upholstery is free of rips or separations although this quality broadcloth has attracted a few moths over the years.
The painted dash and interior window trim are in very nice condition.
The gauges all appear to work properly as do the lights, wipers and horn. The speedometer and turn signals likewise work properly.
The Packard in-line 8 cylinder engine (rebuilt in 1989) for which Packard was known, starts right up and runs quietly. At the touch of the starter the engine comes to life.
The automatic transmission, rebuilt in 2003, works smoothly.
The power brakes on the Packard bring it to a quick halt without pulling from side to side.
This Packard will please any Packard fan:
All of the gauges and safety equipment work; some attention will need to be given to the radio and clock.
A Nice Example of Packard’s Popular Patrician 400
There is one word that can best describe this 1951 Patrician: LOVED! Acceptable paint, excellent upholstery, rebuilt engine and transmission, meticulous records: all of which explain why this classic Packard was valued and enjoyed by the same family for almost 70 years.
