Vehicle Description
Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta is proud to offer this spectacular
1956 Chrysler New Yorker Newport 2 Door Hardtop in Desert Rose and
Cloud White. This extremely rare, gorgeous vehicle was built on
July 10th of 1956 (late production) in Detroit, Michigan. One of
4,115 ever built, this hemi is one of the very few left surviving.
The original 354ci Hemi engine still occupies the engine bay, and
is still fueled by the original Carter WCFB 4bbl carburetor rated
at 280 horsepower. Power is multiplied by Chrysler's unique
pushbutton TorqueFlite transmission, a three-speed improvement over
the earlier two-speed PowerFlite. This car was tastefully restored
by Chrysler enthusiast and restoration expert, Jim Mummah. The
entire car has been rebuilt by Jim, and "no one else has ever
touched this car" including the paint which has been repainted in
'03 to match the original colorway ("Desert Rose" and "Cloud
White"). The interior is also new, and recreated to match the
original. Because Jim wanted to return the car to original
condition, the reassembly process was time consuming, taking a full
6 years. This New Yorker is equipped with Factory AC (very rare),
power steering, power brakes, windows and seat, heavy duty
generator (40 amp), Dual exhaust with deflectors, Solex tinted
glass, clock, town and country radio, heat/defrost, variable wipers
with washers, license plate frame and Motor Wheel wire wheels. Some
historical notes for this '56 Chrysler: This is the only year for
the 354 Hemi, first year for 12v negative ground system, first year
for push button transmission and TorqueFlite (late production
only), and last year for factory AC mounted in the trunk. Since
everybody asks, the scoops near the back window are fresh air
intakes for the AC system. This car has never been a trailer queen,
it has been driven everywhere and it drives great.
