This is a stunning example of a perfectly restored and
well-maintained 1946 Mercury Monarch Woody wagon. Rare at best,
this wagon is a running driving example that presents itself
beautifully and is a fully fledged collector vehicle. The first
Monarchs debuted in 1946, as contemporary Mercury models with
Canadian market-specific trim, unique grilles, taillights and other
trim to marginally differentiate them from their Mercury relatives.
Only 33 examples were produced in 1946 so this car is extremally
rare.
This 1946 Mercury Monarch Woody wagon was the recipient of an
extensive restoration that included the paint, the interior
restoration of the wood paneling, new leather upholstery, new
rubber roof (from original manufacture material), complete engine
rebuild (oil pressure is 80 psi at speed and holds close to this at
idle) and new rubber flooring. The wagon also has the original
equipment sun visor, tinted windows and seatbelts throughout. The
exterior, the undercarriage and all mechanical components are in
exceptional condition. An additional upgrade to a 12 Volt
electrical system was carried out also which is itself, worth its
weight in gold. As for finding parts, virtually all parts are
common with the same period Fords and Mercurys.
In 2015 a Cape Cod boat yard restored the exterior wood by
repairing minor wood issues and coating with seven coats of
compound varnish; over 100 hours labor! June 2018 saw new Firestone
Wide Whitewalls (driven approximately 100 miles). Like the rest of
the car, the engine bay is in excellent condition overall and runs
well. It is clean; everything is in order and properly installed.
All of the hoses, connectors and wiring are in very good condition.
The frame rails are solid and straight, the inner fenders are in
very good condition.
Under current ownership she has had a carburetor rebuild, a
Pertronix ignition and coil, new plugs and wires as well as a new
distributor rotor cover and cap. The car features its factory
installed 239cid, 100hp Flathead V8 that is coupled to her 3 speed
manual column shift transmission, The car runs and drives perfectly
and she is ready for a new home.
