Vehicle Description
1997 Chevrolet C1500 Pickup
Fleetside (plural fleetsides) A pickup truck having flat bedsides
(outside quarter panels). The rear quarter panels are flat and run
lengthwise along the wheel-well openings. Excludes both stepside
and styleside truck bed styles. A pickup truck is a fleetside
because the sides of the box are flat.
For consignment, a well-maintained truck that was always garage
kept by the previous owner and regularly washed and polished.
Gracing the South Mallway of our Hallowed Halls is the 1997
Chevrolet C1500 2-wheel drive hauler ripe for the picking.
Exterior
Light Sandrift Metallic paint that presents well thanks in part to
the diligent care given by a prior owner, floods this C1500 from
the great year of 1997. Straight steel with nicely minded gaps
abounds throughout and blue to teal fading wave-like decals adorn
the doors. A fiberglass visor has been added to the roof and is in
body matching Light Sandrift Metallic. No peeling of the paint
which is normal for this era truck is seen. With Cheyenne
trimmings, meaning some stainless-steel accents, chrome grille and
bumper, wheel well surrounds and black window trimmings and a
slightly used but not abused bed we have a classic worker bee ready
to take on another 100K miles of faithful service or even be taken
to the next level for the show circuit. 15-inch factory highly
polished wheels are on and wrapped in 235/75R15 blackwall rubber
which are almost new.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals an intricate use of tan molded vinyl,
some carpeted area on the bottoms, and many differing panels to
make up just the doors. Inside is an overstuffed vinyl and tweed
pattern bench seat is seen sprawling from door to door and provides
seating for 3. The covered seat is in excellent condition showing
little wear. In front is the original factory configured tan molded
vinyl dash with a black instrument cluster using the square and
rectangle design that was still popular during the 1990's. The
factory AM/FM/Cassette player is still in its mount and just below
is the heater/AC dials and the original airbag equipped steering
wheel is looking just dandy. Slightly soiled tan carpet is on the
floors and remains mostly clean thanks to the care given over the
years, and above is a tight felted headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the original unrestored engine bay, is the
original 4.3 Liter V6. It is fed fuel by EFI and has a 4L60E
4-speed automatic transmission on the back. A 10 bolt 3.08 geared
axle turns the tires to get your cargo delivered on time.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust is noted on the rear axle and suspension,
and just a bit on the frame but the bed underside has severe
surface rust bordering on the invasive category. However, the truck
remains very structurally sound with solid rust-free floor pans and
rockers. Independent coil spring suspension in the front works with
leaf springs in the rear to give this truck its ride. Power disc
brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear are seen. A stock
style single exhaust system handles removal of spent fossils
efficiently.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and was ready for anything the wilds of
Morgantown, PA could dish out. Although our test drive did not take
us to the general store or even Lowes, we just logged a few ticks
around the track, and she was proven to work well. Nice smooth
acceleration and shifting, bias free panic stopping, and easy
drivability. We did note that the A/C system even blew cold, and
all other functions were working as they should.
Whether it be your main mode of transportation, a second truck for
a farm or ranch or cabin location, or a future collectible to
enjoy, you are sure to have years of reliable service left in this
truck. Very little rust, garage kept and faithfully serviced and
cleaned, and it certainly will be well accepted as is. Go on, get
to hauling!
