1957 PLYMOUTH CONVERTIBLE, 80%-90% RESTORED, RUST FREE
Just in, a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere convertible, totally rust free car.
It belonged to an engineer at GM's proving grounds here in Arizona for at least 35-40 years and possible longer. He recently passed away and we got the car from the widow.
When he bought the Plymouth it was white with a black top. There's a picture showing the car when he bought it.
It is still white, no convertible top was installed so it can be any color at the moment. We will probably add red between the side trim, just to add a little color.
He drove the car very little at first but then took it down to an empty and bare frame and over 30+ years he has been doing a frame off restoration on the car that is around 80%-90% finished now.
The widow told me his engineering-friends from the proving ground would come over and they worked on the Plymouth together on and off for many years.
It is completely rebuilt mechanically, engine, transmission, front end, brakes, drive shaft, generator, starter, water pump, carburetor, rear end, suspension etc, etc. The body was taken down to bare metal, I have pictures from that also.
The body is back on the frame and the engine starts and runs great. And the car is completely drivable as is. The push button shifter cable needs adjustment still.
The doors, fenders, hood, decklid, bumpers, lights etc are installed and the car is over 95% together.
The side glass is not installed right now but we'll probably do that during the next few days, new windshield was just installed, the seat covers are okay and usable but old and should be redone for the car to be completely rebuilt. The car needs carpet, door panels etc.
Wide white wall tires will be installed at the end of this week. The widow asked her neighbor to help getting www tires for the car, he bought a set of white letter tires!!! They are brand new but will be gone in 2-3 days and replaced with wide white wall tires.
The conv top frame is perfect, it almost look new. There's no vinyl conv top on it.
The electric wiring is installed and lights etc are working.
The car has the much sought after bumper wings front and rear.
There's a lot of documentation and pictures from the restoration, inc the bare frame, rolling chassis, rebuilt and detailed engine and on and on.
We can sell the car as is or finished. We don't have time to wait for 2+ years on door panels from SMS so if we get a new interior done it will be nice but not 100% correct for the car.
The price will of course go up as we spend time and money on the Plymouth.
PLEASE NOTE, this is not your usual patched up rust bucket but a bone dry and rust free car that is mostly restored!
