Properly following up a famous race car can be a challenge, and this nitro-burning tribute to the legendary Chizler V fuel dragster of Chris “The Golden Greek” Karamesines meets those criteria. The original car was noted for its huge speeds in the pioneering days of professional drag racing, during NHRA’s infamous gas-only “fuel ban.” Karamesines himself was a larger-than-life character in those touring days as well, remaining competition-active even into this century. The tribute here was constructed by Ron “Big Yohns” Johnson with the Greek’s advice and blessing, and the legendary driver even made a pass with it at the 2010 Winternationals at Pomona after it was completed.

The recreation uses a three-point tube chassis built by Bobby Hansen and is powered by a blown 392 CI Hemi V-8 engine with ported heads built by Jim Swedberg. Constructed to burn cackle-level nitromethane fuel mixtures, the mill uses a Weiand blower intake and 6-71 supercharger and a 1964 Hillborn four-port fuel-injection unit. Inside are Ross pistons, Howard connecting rods, an Isky valvetrain, modern billet aluminum adjustable rocker arms made by Dave Dewars and the Chrysler wet-sump oiling design capped by a Milodon pan. Custom headers make it roar. A Crower chromoly billet flywheel with 10-inch, double-disc clutch fabricated Donovan-style by Fred Hayhurst links this to a Lenco “In & Out” coupler, while a set of 31-spline racing axles made by Strange Engineering are in the differential. Strange Engineering provided the steering gear and multi-caliper rear disc brakes as well, with a Chuck Neal single-piston master cylinder used in association with the Deist parachute and pack.

A Simpson harness is in the cockpit, while the car rides on 17-inch Borrani front wheels with Creitz hubs and 17x2.25 Avon Speedmaster tires up front and 15-inch Halibrand true magnesium rear wheels with 10x15 Hurst/M&H Racemaster tires. Two Odyssey gel cell batteries for easy starting at events and a custom trailer for getting the dragster there will be included, and this car is sold on a Bill of Sale.

Recent events include a side-by-side push start and burnout exhibition with “Fast” Jack Beckman behind the wheel at Nitro Revival, as well as extensive Cacklefest exhibition provenance at prestigious events such as the California Hot Rod Reunion at the Famosa Raceway, Escondido Nitro Nights, US Nationals at Indianapolis and Ron Miller Memorial/Standard 1320 Race in Tucson. It was also a featured car at the National Hot Rod Reunion 2010, and the car has performed in side-by-side push start and burnout exhibitions with the Tommy Ivo Barnstormer replica at Nitro Revivals and the Cordova Dragway World Series of Drag Racing. The original Chizler V was a legend of the early Top Fuel touring, and this car’s new owner is certain to enjoy ownership of this great, cackle-ready rail. Also comes with a custom built trailer for hauling it. I can help arrange shipping if needed.

Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a correctly built iconic F.E.D. and 1/2 the build price.  Museum Quality!
