Vehicle Description
CMC is proud to have this one of kind 1965 Sunbeam Tiger
Convertible in our showroom. This early production Tiger is powered
by the original 260 V8 and backed up by the 4-Speed Top Loader
manual transmission and a Dana 44 Rear. With only 28k Actual Miles
from new and having its certificate of Authenticity, please read
more on why this is possibly the best Tiger in the World.
This is the all original 28,000 mile unrestored 1965 Sunbeam Tiger,
aka the "Baby Cobra". The Tiger program was developed by Carol
Shelby and Ken Miles. A Sunbeam Alpine was sent to Shelby's shop in
Venice, California, so he could build a prototype Tiger. Ken Miles
also built one. After thoroughly testing both vehicles, Rootes
Group sent Shelby's Tiger to England for further development by
Rootes. Their calibration transferred a European sports car into a
powerful performance car.
This particular Tiger is one the finest original and preserved
Tigers available today. The car has virtually no wear and is all
original.
This numbers matching Tiger is powered by the original 260 V8 and 4
Speed top loader transmission. The car shows its original yellow
stripe vacuum hose, and herringbone heater hoses, neither of which
are available as reproductions. JAL tag, cowl tag rivets, and valve
cover sticker are all undisturbed. The car retains its original Top
loader transmission (HEH-E tagged), date coded bellhousing, date
coded Dana 44 rear, date coded 2V carburetor etc. It has the Tiger
specific fuel pump access door.
This one of kind Tiger is still wearing most of its original
Carnival Red paint with a deep shine and and excellent paint
quality. The car is also wearing all of the original chrome,
weather-strip, seat upholstery, etc... and it all looks great with
no dry rot or cracks.
This special Tiger features a set of rare original LAT 9 wheels,
mounted on original Uniroyal Tiger Paw bias-ply redline tires that
were put on the car in 1968 since the original owner had to have
Tiger Paws on her Tiger. It also comes with a new full set of
modern Mini-lite style wheels and tires for driving. The glass
including the windshield is beautiful original Triplex, date coded
from 1964. Additional features include an optional hardtop, a Black
folding soft top, and a tonneau cover. The hardtop is also in like
new condition. The soft top has been replaced and is an excellent
shape. This Tiger has the complete owners history and only has had
three owners from new. The original owner held ownership until
1983. She lovingly cared for this Tiger. The second owner was a
well known Shelby collector, Wayne Curry. Wayne found and bought
this car from the original owner in 1983, when it had 24,000
original miles.
Cosmetically, the unrestored original condition is so good that the
car appears to be restored. Under close inspection, you will
realize that this is not a restoration but the original condition
of the vehicle. This is a true time capsule and a very special car
for a very special collector.
