This Karmann Ghia was owned by the same woman for much of its life.  It lived primarily in a dry New Mexico garage.  The car was not driven much and as a result, has very low miles and is very original.  Sometime in the 70s, the car was repainted its original color combination and up until a few years ago, nothing else was touched. I purchased the car after a Southern California VW enthusiast bought the car from the family. This VW enthusiast is highly respected in the vintage VW community and is known for his excellent work at preserving original and historic examples.

Because the interior is all original, he wanted to preserve as much as possible.  The first step was to carefully disassemble the front seats.  He then had the seams restitched and reinforced with the correct pucker to the seat per factory standards.  Next, he carefully removed the original rear quarter windows and installed new attachments, hinges and rubber so they can easily be used.  The wool square weave carpets and binding are all original and look very good.  The original rubber floor mats are in excellent shape. Headliner looks good with no tears.  The original dash and panels look amazing also. The dash is a very rare 1-year only design that has survived over the years.  It still retains its very rare and original radio block off plate with no modifications.  The door "spears" aluminum trim is not only intact, but looks great.  The windows wind with ease and all the lights work. The original clock is still in and works well.  The doors fit and close very nicely.

The engine was removed and all the original details were preserved.  Once the engine was out all the seals were replaced, as was the clutch. The carburetor was rebuilt and the original distributor and fuel pump were inspected and cleaned.  The transmission was serviced as well. The front beam was completely rebuilt with new ball joints, steering tie rods, and new shocks all the way around. The brake system was overhauled with a new Ate slave cylinder, brake lines, new shoes, turned drums and new master cylinder.  The wheel bearings were replaced also.

The final step was to address some rust in the lower part of the body.  A very well respected Southern California body shop carefully removed all the lower trim and using old fashion metal working skills, they cut out the rust in the rockers, fenders and under the headlights.  The body was then sanded and the Sea Blue was carefully matched to original paint found in the door jambs, trunk and engine.  Top Cumulus White top was carefully masked and protected to preserve some of the original patins.  The glass is all original and most has never been removed from the car.  The rubber is in great condition. The windscreen is original.  The floor pans and tunnel are all original and in pristine condition.  All of the chrome trim is original and unrestored.

The car drives very nicely and goes straight down the road.  The brakes have very good pedal feel for being drums.

This car comes with its original tool kit, jack, original spare tire, cardboard luggage protector, vintage VW dealer license plate frame and owners manual.

I have attached documentation that I got showing the authenticity and originality of the vehicle.
