1964 Shelby Cobra 289 - For Sale Princess Blue, Restoration By
Legendary Motorcar LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1964
Shelby Cobra 289 Carroll Shelby and his famous Ford powered Cobras
need no introduction to any motorsport's enthusiast. The years of
Carroll Shelby and Ford's partnership created some of the best race
and street cars in automotive history. Shelby's fame and success is
owed to his third iteration of the AC-bodied Cobra, which utilized
Ford's new 289-cubic-inch V-8, that provided the perfect balance of
handling and raw power. Rated at 306 horsepower, the 289 was tasked
with propelling a car that weighed only 2,000 pounds. With such
exciting performance, it is no wonder that the Cobra became an
instant success, making both Cobra and Carroll Shelby household
names and, ultimately, besting Ferrari to bring the FIA
International GT Championship to the United States for the first
time in 1965 This 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 is a striking example of
Carroll Shelby's potent intercontinental sports car. At first
glance, one immediately notices the stunning Princess Blue paint,
chrome wire-wheels, and appropriate bias ply white sidewall tires -
all of which are factory original specifications. According to this
Cobra registry, this example was billed to Shelby American on
5/26/24 and shipped to Los Angeles on 6/5 aboard the "SS Loch
Loyal". After completion at the Shelby factory, it was invoiced to
Harr Ford, Inc. in Worcester, MA. Legendary Motorcar purchased the
Cobra from which is believed to be the car's 2nd owner whom
retained ownership for 40 years. LMC performed a complete
restoration for the car's next owner. The original body was removed
from the original chassis and both completely stripped and
refinished. All mechanical systems and numbers matching drivetrain
were completely disassembled and rebuilt. The result is what you
see here today is an outstanding, desirable late production rack
and pinion 289 restored to original street specifications.
