The Prowler was all about celebrating the style of our American
automotive history, and 2001 was the final year for Plymouth. So
there's no better way to represent this culmination than with an
exceptionally well-preserved, absolutely loaded, and low mileage
2001 Plymouth Prowler.
This is a life-long southern car that has been treated with proper
respect. After all, averaging under 1,600 miles annually lets you
know this was more about weekend fun trips than the daily grind.
That's why its factory Prowler Silver Metallic still shines with
pride. But more than just stock, this one has been upgraded in a
few very key ways. For example, the graphite bumpers that were
often criticized have now been color-matched so that they now
contribute to the car's smooth appearance. There's a bra to protect
the retro-cool pointed front end. And a dark black goes great with
silver, and so a new convertible top was installed within the last
few months. It was a $2,500 investment and there are multiple years
left on its warranty. It gives you the look of distinction without
straying too far from stock. Even the staggered 17/20-inches
front/rear bright alloys were an original feature to draw attention
to the Prowler's intimidating stance.
While the exterior has the retro-cool look of a terrific roadster,
the interior gets quite modern. It's outfitted with exceptionally
comfortable dark charcoal gray leather buckets with the special
Prowler logo embossed in the seatbacks. Since this is a modern
classic, there are plenty of great features like cold-blowing air
conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, and an
upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo with USB input. The white-faced gauges are
a great centerpiece, and the column-mounted AutoMeter tach is a
factory-installed item that's a nod to the classic hot rod style.
The slick-shifting Auto-Stick transmission makes the Prowler a more
functional choice for those who like a vintage look but modern
convenience. In fact, a retro car also means welcomed safety
features like dual airbags and anti-lock brakes.
When you lift the hood, the clean condition of the motor reminds
you once again of this low-mileage car's collectability. The
lightweight nature of the Prowler and the 253 horsepower of the
3.5-liter 24-valve V6 moves this roadster quite nicely. It's an
all-around solid powerhouse that starts instantly and idles
smoothly thanks to modern fuel injection. The four-speed automatic
transmission w/overdrive and power steering make this a fine
anytime cruiser. When you want a little more fun, the AutoStick has
a manual mode that will really open up the backroads. This lets you
take full advantage of the fully independent suspension, four-wheel
disc brakes, grippy sport tires, and the Prowler's ideal near 50/50
weight distribution.
This was Plymouth's final model year (the Prowler was also sold as
a Chrysler.) And this is a terrific cruiser of distinction. That's
