The 1981 model year was the last year for carburetors on Corvettes,
and the second to last year of the C3 generation. This year was one
of refinement without any large changes as the coming C4 generation
of Corvettes was well underway at Chevrolet Engineering. The crisp
Silver Metallic 1981 Corvette pictured here has received a cosmetic
restoration with a fresh coat of paint and a new interior. The
finish is almost flawless, and combined with the chrome emblems,
rocker panels, and window garnish, make this Corvette look nicer
than the day it was new. The gorgeous polished aluminum wheels
wrapped in white letter tires complete the muscular look and fill
the wheel arches well. The T-top roof panels are removable to make
this a wonderful open air driving machine in just moments. Inside
is a fully loaded silver leather lined cockpit with bucket seats,
power driver seat, tilt and telescoping steering column, full
instrumentation, power mirrors, windows, and locks, cruise control,
AM/FM Cassette stereo, rear defogger, and ice cold A/C. Under the
hood is the L81 350 cubic inch V-8 making 190hp and 280 lb. ft. of
torque at 1,600 rpm. This is mated with a smooth shifting three
speed automatic transmission and feeds back to a 2.87:1 geared rear
axle with limited slip. The suspension was updated for the 1981
model year with a new fiberglass rear monoleaf. This reduced the
weight of the rear spring from 41 pounds to just 8 pounds and was
the first time a fiberglass spring had been used in a production
automobile. Brakes are power four wheel disc with aluminum calipers
to reduce unsprung weight, and independent front and rear
suspension designs make this Corvette a great corner carver. This
classic Corvette is the bargain of the classic Corvette era. The
styling of the shark generation is timeless and still turns heads
to this day. It is a pleasure to drive, T-tops in or out, and
performs very well even given its modest power output. Contact
