For Sale: 1981 Chevrolet Corvette in Ocala, Florida

Vehicle Description

The 1981 Corvette carries the distinction of being the only Corvette model year to every be produced simultaneously at two different plants during the same model year. Chevrolet moved Corvette production from the old St. Louis facility to a new state of the art facility in Bowling Green Kentucky however production continued for a few short months at both plants. And while it would be understandable for Chevrolet to not make any changes to the Corvette for 1981 given the big moves taking place, Chevrolet engineering was busy making lots of small changes to further tweak the car and the results of those changes make the 81'-82' Corvettes the best driving and refined of the third generation. This particular example left the old St. Louis facility on November 14th 1980 and still retains all of the wonderful qualities that made the late C3s such a pleasure to drive. Finished in Code 13 Silver Metallic Paint with removable T-tops, N90 Aluminum wheels, and the extra cost optional wide 225/60R15 white letter radial tires, this Corvette is really something to see. The shark body has a very nice flow, while the redesigned shovel nose and integrated rear spoiler helped to improve aerodynamics, increase fuel mileage, and save a whopping 84 pounds weight in the bumpers alone from the older model. Inside is a very comfortable and accommodating place to be, and that luxury feel abounds in this very well optioned model. Above the standard vinyl seat equipped car, this Corvette features the Code 152 Silver leather reclining seats, A42 power drivers seat, AU3 power door locks, C49 rear window defogger, K35 cruise control, UM6 AM/FM/Cassette stereo and the U75 power antenna. A standard alarm system, full instrumentation, tilt and telescopic steering column, thick carpeting, and ice cold A/C complete this sporty yet cozy cabin. Under the hood you will find the only engine available in 1981, the venerable Chevrolet 350 V-8 with engine code L81 denoting 8.2:1 compression, 190 horsepower, and 280 lb. ft. of torque. This engine was equipped with a weight saving aluminum intake manifold that cut 24lbs from the previous cast iron unit, black painted finned magnesium valve covers for weight savings and a great look, and a single four barrel Rochester carburetor covered with a polished chrome air cleaner assembly. Mated to a smooth shifting three speed Turbo Hydra-matic transmission with a locking torque converter and working in combination with a limited slip differential featuring a 2.87:1 gear ratio, this Corvette still moves out quite well and feels very lithe going down the road.
