styling and engineering prowess in a four door luxury sedan model
than the 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Brougham Sedan - drive one
like this particular example and you will see why - its hard to
believe that this car was built over 50 years ago! These cars
bristled with the latest in modern appointments and had few rivals
in the luxury market and were purchased only by the very privileged
elite. The all new 472/375HP V8 engine with 525 foot pounds of
torque was introduced in 1968, it was the biggest and smoothest
engine built by Cadillac to date and it proved unsurpassed in the
industry as the largest engine ever put in a production passenger
motor car and provided both sparkling acceleration, yet also quiet
and effortless highway cruising, almost like having two engines!
The car was also redesigned to match its modern engine with a new
grille with finely spaced horizontal grille bars and distinct
parking and headlamp lights. With minor trim changes, in 1966
Cadillac offered buyers two models in this series: the standard
Fleetwood Sixty Special (priced at $6,378) and the new Fleetwood
Brougham ($6,695). The Brougham option package proved so popular
the previous year it was made a separate model for 1966. The
Fleetwood Brougham included a formal-looking vinyl roof covering,
and luxurious appointments inside such as genuine walnut trim and,
for rear seat passengers, lighted writing tables (through 1967),
foot rests, and reading lamps.All-new styling appeared in 1969, and
the two Sixty Special models had distinct rooflines from the other
Cadillacs. A 60/40 split bench seat was standard in the Sixty
Special Brougham, optional in Sixty Special. Safety was a new
priority at Cadillac, which introduced a new steering column that
not only was designed to absorb impact and collapse in a collision,
but also had new Federally-mandated theft-deterrent features such
as an ignition key switch activated steering wheel and transmission
shifter lock mechanism. As also mandated, head rests were standard
on front seats, while seat belts were provided for all six
passengers. The 375 hp 472 cu in (7.73 L) engine carried over from
1968. Also of note this year was the disappearance of the small
vent windows on the front and rear doors. Sixty Special Brougham,
at $7,092, included a vinyl roof top (available in six colors), as
well as rear-seat foot rests and an automatic level control for the
rear wheels which kept the car level despite the weight of fuel,
passengers, or cargo. The 472/375HP 4 barrel V8 engine is extremely
strong and powerful and and this particular car drives absolutely
magnificently - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten -
drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or
rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern
day car a run for it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly
through the gears and the car is an absolute pleasure to drive! The
floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are
completely original, solid and rust-free and the car has no signs
of any accidents. The car has been repainted once in its original
'Persian Aqua Metallic' color and boasts its seemingly all original
matching 'Aqua Devereaux Cloth with Medium Aqua Leather with
embroidered inserts' interior and carpeting with its matching
headliner and all of which are still in quite exceptional condition
throughout. The car boasts its original spare wheel and jack in the
truck! This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving
example of a mostly completely all original 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood
Brougham with believed to be 52K original miles showing pride of
ownership and in great driving and looking condition!
