Vehicle Description
This 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-C is a very rare find. Literally.
One of just 215 produced exclusively for the California market,
it's got a pedigree that sets it apart from other limited-edition
models and is a modern-day representation of a unique chapter in
automotive history. With only 21,497 miles logged on this
super-clean example, it's also in the absolute prime of its life -
barely broken in and ready to create countless memories on the
roads ahead.
Sporting a unique Grabber Orange tuxedo with a Silver mohawk
stripe-pattern, this rare Shelby obviously came to party, and my
goodness is it a really sharp-looking ride. The finish is in great
shape, with only minor imperfections and the very real possibility
of looking and feeling brand new again with a quick clay bar and
wax detail. Those broad Silver stripes run down its center from
nose to end, just as with the original Shelby's more than five
decades ago, and a set of lower-body stripes at the profiles were
added to match and add further contrast to the vivid Grabber Orange
finish. We're pretty used to seeing specialty and aftermarket
Mustangs on the road, but this one simply doesn't look quite like
any of them. To go along with the stripe package, the $8500 GT-C
package featured lots of goodies from Shelby, including the hood
scoop, hood pins, unique billet grille with integrated Pony badge,
scoops aft the doors, and the deleted rear spoiler that makes the
car look like a modern-day notch-back. Despite all the automotive
engineering advances it both benefits from and exhibits proudly,
put this Shelby side by side with the original version, and you'll
see a respectful homage that's really impressive. Owing to both its
unusually low miles and good care, it's looking great, as well. The
deep paint shines, the flashy grill sparkles and those signature
graphics still look fresh.
Inside, you'll notice everything looks equally fresh. From front to
back, the black leather upholstery on the sporty seats retains its
original shape and firmness and looks great sitting on the sea of
matching black carpeting. Its front power bucket seats are
especially well-designed-supportive and nicely bolstered and once
you take a look at the back seat and it's obvious this ride didn't
see much in the way of car pools. No wrinkles from bearing
passengers, just the smooth shininess of leather and a hint of new
car smell still hangs faintly in the atmosphere all these years
later. The brushed aluminum look of the dash area remains unspoiled
and bears the telltale Carroll Shelby signature and production
number - further proof of its rarity. You're covered in the options
department, as well, as this baby comes loaded with pretty much
every available option in 2008. The well-regarded Shaker 500 system
comes with AM/FM, CD and satellite radio displayed on the large
screen in the center of the dash, and there's also an anti-theft
device, tilt wheel, cruise control and pretty much power
everything. A/C blows nice and cold, too, and the cabin feel
air-tight thanks to modern insulation from the factory. All the
GT-C cars also received a Hurst shifter, Shelby GT-C door sill
plates, and a personally signed Carrol Shelby signature on the
passenger's side sun visor.
It's one thing to turn out a model with a special look to its
exterior, but the special features on this very limited-edition car
carry through to its drivetrain, as well. This IS a Shelby, after
all, so you'd expect no less. The already potent 4.6 liter engine
benefits from a 90mm cold air intake (that front air dam isn't just
for show), an Pro-Cal engine-management performance calibration,
and an X-pipe exhaust with performance mufflers, upping its power
output to 319hp and 330 foot/lbs. of torque. It's power that
readily shows itself in terms of real performance, as this model
cracks 5.1 seconds 0-60 and clocks an impressive 13.8 in the
quarter. It's connected to a very well-engineered Tremec TR3650
5-speed manual transmission powered by a Hurst short-throw shifter
that provides not only performance, but low RPMs on the highway as
well thanks to a limited-slip differential with a 3.55:1
final-drive ratio. That lowered stance you see is no idle promise
of handling aptitude, as it's the result of new dampers all arouns,
lowering springs, thicker stabilizer bars, a strut-tower brace, and
all the other benefits of the Ford Racing Handling Package. And,
with its oversized and vented Baer power disc brakes all the way
around, you get great stopping power, as well. Finishing off the
look, this GT-C sits on a killer set of 18-inch alloys wrapped with
Yokohama performance rubber.
