Vehicle Description
Here's one of the rarest and coolest modern classics around. This
2009 Chevrolet HHR SS Panel Van takes a retro-cool commercial-grade
machine and gives it an awesome turbocharged heart. And because
your local Chevy dealer likely sold more Impalas in 2009 than there
were HHR SS Panel Vans made IN TOTAL, this is quite an affordable
way to get into exclusive company.
The HHR was Chevrolet's way of having some fun with history. It was
the car that gave us the retro-cool look of the scaled-down version
of the Suburban. So it was only natural that they would get even
more practical, and offer a run of the panel delivery vans off
which the Suburban was based. But because they were having fun with
a modern interpretation, some added performance got thrown into the
mix. A turbocharged SS version was added to the lineup, and a
handful of panel vans even got the big power treatment. The
odometer is believed to represent the full actual mileage, and so
this panel van has been driven but far from a daily delivery
lifestyle. That's why the body has a clean look and the paint
retains a good metallic glow. Plus, the silver goes well with the
blackout grilles, upgraded blackout bow tie emblems, and tinted
glass. There's also a factory body kit, rear roof spoiler, and a
terrific set of 18-inch alloys. So when you have the clean
slab-sided look of the body and meaner style, we can't help but
think of a hot rod surf wagon. Of course, we wouldn't blame you for
putting your company logo on the side and making this the most fun
business expense ever.
The fifth-generation Camaro was first hitting the streets about the
same time as this HHR SS, and you can see they practiced some of
its style on this car first. Up front there are two nicely
bolstered bucket seats. They look terrific with the red accenting
and suede-like trim. This is coordinated with door panels for a
well-done uniform presentation. It's loaded with the best features,
including cold-blowing air conditioning, power windows, power
locks, keyless entry/alarm, cruise control, cup holders, dual front
airbags, side airbags, and an AM/FM/CD/XM stereo w/aux input for
your iPod. This is quite a practical ride with the full fold-flat
cargo area, and this even has the rarely-seen back seat with
seatbelts. The grippy sports steering wheel feels nice in your
hands, and it's mounted on a tilt column to give you a clear view
to the large speedo and tach. Plus, the boost gauge on the A-pillar
is a nice reminder of something special in the engine bay.
Under the hood is a tidy and stock-looking motor. That's important
because it's the heart of what makes this Chevy so special. It
produces 250 horsepower which puts it near juggernauts like the
contemporary Subaru WRX. And while this is a practical panel van,
it shares many of its components with the nimble Chevrolet Cobalt
SS. And it's a great all-around driver with a four-speed automatic
transmission with overdrive, power steering, and four-wheel power
disc brakes with ABS.
