Vehicle Description
1978 GMC Sierra Classic Heavy Half Squarebody Long bed fleetside in
original not restored condition. 454 V8, automatic, power steering
and power disc brakes (front). Tilt wheel, cruise control and air
conditioning. Research shows that a Heavy Half (and the Big 10 in
Chevrolet) had higher GVW ratings that allowed GM to not install
catalytic converters. It rides well and runs good. Except where
noted below it is original and matches the equipment list in the
glovebox (SPID). Not being restored there are areas that still need
attention but they very much depend on how the truck is to be used.
Keeping it original might require certain parts but modifying would
require others. History We think the truck was sold new in Colorado
and was moved to New Mexico at some point just not sure if it was
the original owner. Two of my friends owned the truck before me.
First friend 'P' knew the previous owner and about 13 years ago
helped him to get the truck running after sitting for years. 'P'
rebuilt the Quadrajet carb and ended up trading for the truck a few
years ago. 'P' sold the truck to friend 'B' who rents vehicles for
local filming. Second friend 'B' recovered the seat and dash and
installed new carpeting matching the original color. 'B' did some
basic maintenance, installed new hood hinges and put a matched set
of Hankook 235/75/15 whitewall tires on the original rims with the
original hubcaps. Tires are date coded about 2014. I bought the
truck to drive and help with a local house move after I sold my 4WD
on Classiccardeals.com. For safety, I had the all the brakes done
by a professional mechanic. The headlights were replaced with the
best Sylvania Halogens, the taillight lenses were replaced with
reproductions and the taillight bulbs were upgraded to LED. The
spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, rotor and coil were all
replaced as well. The truck has dual tanks but the passenger side
had not been used in years and will need attention.
